Edit:
The text says, going clockwise from the top:
- Vorlon-esque head + shoulder region (Make more insect-like[?])
- Fix this joint area
- Put some sort of finger here
- External ribs, barely above the hardened chest [plate]
- Back plate/shell?
- Segmented abdomen
- Chicken legs
- Maybe add some long spines/hairs sorta like the Protoss have?
- Symmetrical, obviously
- 3 toes
- Jagged thingies
Another, better quality picture:

Official (diplomatic) name: Azaru (subject to later change)
Technical name: Mantisidae
Colloquial names: Mantis, Bug, ... maybe more later ...
A humanoid/insectoid alien. Technologically advanced, but still uses melee combat extensively (although not exclusively).
And now another sketch, same alien. Some changes, some maybe temporary, some approaching final.
Edit:See next post for sketch #2.

OK, I've decided that trying to 'enhance' the images made them look like ****. So I've uploaded an un-enhanced version. I still don't have a working scanner, so this was (still) done using my camera.

Edit:
Here's my latest idea for the backstory:
- Humans and Mechs separate; Mechs emigrate from Sol
- Human-Bug war
- Human-Bug war ends (no clear victor)
- Plant invasion of Sol; Plants become heavily entrenched after a number of victories
- Mech assault on Plant invasion force; Mechs bombard all Plant locations, killing many Humans
- Bug fleet rescues a number of Humans from Sol
- Human-Bug alliance
- Super Space War (with Lasers!) (The game, if I make a game out of it)

Interesting

What's the watermark at the top of the page??

"Environment"
I just found it lying around, I'm assuming it's recycled paper or something.
-
When I was young, long hours of playing Dark Colony, left me with a deep and distinct impression such that the word alien evokes the image of a Sy-Demon.
Your alien is highly intresting. How does it control machinery ?

Yeah, how does it control machinery? Sickles aren't good for uhh...things that need gripping.
-
1) Stick the sickle into a control port, and tiny nerves along the sickle interface in the port allowing direct control with the alien's mind
2) Direct neural interface through a helmet.
3) They have a pilot strain.
One of those ?

Ah right, it looked like the alien writing they found on the wreckage of the Roswell incident!
-
It's got hands on the two lower arms. I just can't draw fingers, so I gave it fists instead of open hands.
-
pretty kool. make it more menacing and spiky, and you get what the shivans should have been.
Granted, the fact that they're not humanoid makes them pretty creepy...)
-
"Shivan" doesn't elicit spikes in my head, imo. But the alien is pretty cool. Reminds me of these guys (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_creatures_in_the_Half-Life_series#Pit_Drone).
