Title: So... pilot points
Post by: Shadow86 on May 20, 2008, 02:17:38 pm
I'm playing FS2 at the moment, with the latest version of FS Open (3.6.9). Thing is, I've just finished the Endgame mission of the campaign, and I'm still an Ensign! Playing at Medium difficulty, I've several medals, but my rank remains unchanged.

I've done a search on the forums, and learnt that you need to accumulate points to get promotions. The bigger the ship and harder the difficulty, the more points you get. I also noticed there was a pilot manager tool for the original Freespace games, but that it doesn't work with FSOpen pilot files due to a change in their structure. Coolmon may've helped with a newer tool 4 years ago, but I found out they changed the file structure again, and besides the tool's link is 404 now.

So, bottom line, is there any way I can check my pilot's points? I can't be too far from the 4,000 I need to make Lt. JG. Geez, I downed an Orion on my last mission! Well, I got the kill, didn't deal all the damage.

The total singleplayer points aren't present anywhere in the pilot stats window, nor the medals screen. And no, I don't want to cheat and make Admiral or some such.

Thanks in advance for your help. :)

Welcome to the HLPBB!!! :D

I have the program you mentioned but, as you said, it doesn't work with FS Open. I don't know of other ways to know the exact number of points. :)

if you seek promotions, do TBP. I got Lt Junior Grade after my fourth mission.

EDIT: Oh, and hello!

Hehehe, I know. Who do you think put the point values per rank there? xD

The ranks were already there, but they were kind of lacking in information without the point requirements.

Anyway, thanks for the welcomes. And what's TPB? If possible, I want to gain promotions on the main campaign, primarily.

promotions are kind pointless, and you need to do the FS2 campaign a zillion times on insane to hit admiral :)

It was a lot easier in FS1 (I got to Commander at the end of the campaign... Then I kept replaying it to get to the top rank. Forgot what I got up to.)

I don't aspire anything higher than Commander, but remember, the point of this thread is: can I somehow check my pilot's current accumulated points, taking all that I have said before into account?

No, it's not anywhere in the singleplayer game. :doubt:

There was a program called PilotView or something like that enabling you to check your pilot points...but it doesn't work with FSO.

Or I could simply fix the barracks to display your current score. :D

I'm surprised no one did it before.

I guess that seeing as how it's so intimately connected with the pilot file they all thought it would break something. :D

Hell, I'm still not sure I didn't. It seemed far too easy :nervous:

So . .. in High Noon, did you not bother to attack the Sathanas? Beams don't count for damage where kills are concerned. If you deal like pretty much any damage to the Sathanas, you'll get the kill (because of the rest of the kill is the Colossus' beams), and 10,000 points which'll make you Lieutenant at the very least.

I'm talking with Shadow via MSN...looks like he's experiencing a problem with the FS Port. I see what I can do...
