Hey im new here,
can anyone help me to get started.
-
1. Take your new fan from it's package. Place it on a good location so that the oscillation does not hit any objects and damage them.
2. Find the power plug and an electricity socket from your wall.
3. Plug the fan to the wall and switch it on.
4. Enjoy the refreshing breeze!
:D

Well then, now that's over and done with... I would recommend using Turey's Online Java installer (http://www.fsoinstaller.com/downloads.html). Download the file, run it, read and comprehend instructions and it will basically install a ready-to-use FS2_Open for you with latest official material and a load of campaigns.
It's a good place to start. If you have problems getting started after the installation process has run it's course, just post here again with questions...
Or, well, perhaps to prevent some confusion.
1. The file you will want to run after installation is Launcher.exe. Not freespace2.exe or any other files in the directory.
2. Post your system specs so we know if you'll be able to use MediaVP's [translation: eye-candy graphical community-based upgrades] and to what extent. It will also help with possible trouble shooting later. Basically the relevant information is:
-Operating system (Windows XP, Windows Vista, OS X, Linux What? This all is basically written under assumption that you're on WinXP, since it is the most common OS around at the time...)
-Central Processing Unit (processor)
-Amount of system RAM (memory)
-Graphics Processing Unit (video card) and possibly the drivers it's using.
:)

I'd probably recommend campaigns Homesick and Derelict to start off with.
They can be downloaded from Turey's Installer.
Oh yeah, and don't forget Deus Ex Machina as well! ;)

No, No, NO! He needs to start with FSPort, then the FS2 campaign, then move on to what you said, (although I'd put Derelict before Homesick).
:P
Yes welcome idc130!

Hello!
Don't forget Blue Planet, Hellgate Ikeya, Ros 128, Awakenings, (all the other FSPort campaigns, excluding Silent Threat)
-
Sync and Transcend are mandatory.
-
Inferno:R1 and Sol:A History (ShadowGorath/Mobius upgrades)
Silent Threat:Reborn - When it comes out
Infernoverse - if it ever comes out
-
Infernoverse - if it ever comes out
You know you'll just confuse him if you give him another version of the already piss-confusing terminology we use. :D
-
FSPort (more for story than anything else)
FS2 main campaign
Derelict
Sync
Transcend
Homesick (glitchy so it's optional)
StormFront I and II
Blue Planet (will blow your mind)
-
What about Procyon Insurgency?
-
Then the Total Conversions (TC's) such as The Babylon Project (TBP), Battlestar Galatica : Beyond the Red Line (BTRL) and Wing Commander Saga (WCS or WCSaga).
-
What about Procyon Insurgency?
Motion seconded. I quite liked it.
-
It's too hard for newbies and playing on easy will probably break it :ick:
-
I would like to point out the kid is new, and he probably has no idea where to get all those shiny things you have spoken of. Posting links will help him better than blasting names out at him.
-
Yeah, he has a good point!
Could some of you give me some links to some beginner campaigns or other freespace content you think I shoud have.
-
Here (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,42854.0.html). Get all the ones in the Installer. Then come back and ask for more. xD
-
Thanks

my opinion is that you wait to play any of the inferno stuff until the Inferno SCP release is out. chuckle.
But definately. Freespace 1 first. (Fsport) and Then play FS2. But definately FS1 before you play any other campaigns. As for first other campaigns. I say start with Derelict.
