Hi i'm sure some of you must hate me now because of these questions
I was far more annoying, I assure you.
i have the sexp and such but i dont know where i type the file name, and is it meant to be in a specific file?
Do you want it to happen during the level, or do you want the custom music to be there at the beginning of the mission (as normal)?
Also, do you have the triggered music files (like the ones that trigger when new enemy ships jump in or when goals are completed) or is it just 1 file? If you have the entire triggered music thing, you can put it into the music.tbl (http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Music.tbl) and then choose it from the Mission Specifications editor (Shift+N). If you want the music to change during the mission (and have all the files) use the change-soundtrack SEXP, and enter the name of the music which you wrote in the music.tbl (ie. if you want the music to change to Revelation, select (or type in) 7: Revelation.
If you do not have the triggered music files, you can make them go into the game using the play-sound-from-file SEXP. Simply enter the name of the file (make sure there are no typos, and do not add the file extension). So if you want to play a briefing tune during the mission, enter FS2_Brief_01 in the required field.

ok i just want the music to play from the start but im unsure about where to put the name of the file in the sexp
-
Which Sexp are you using?

More importantly, where have you put the sound file in the FS2 folder hierarchy?
-
it is this:
---music
|
op when
|
|-----true
|-----play-sound from file
|
|-----[1] <any string>
sound file in the freespace 2 hierachy?
-
In other words, where is the sound file located on your hard drive? Is it in the main FS2 folder, or one of its subfolders?
-
Select <any string>, type in the name of the file (it must be less than 28 or 32 characters depending on how things work, stay less than 28 to be safe.)
-
thanks ill try that now...
-
it didn't work, i changed the whole <string> part to: C:\Users\James\Desktop\M1
but nothing happened in game...
-
1st, just the filename not the entire path. Whoever downloads the mission isn't going to have the same path.
2nd put the file in Freespace2\Data\sound
-
so i put it in freespace2\data\sound
and instaead of <string> it should say m1?
-
Yep
-
ok it's working now, thankyou so much

Karajorma saves the day. Again.

The problem's already solved. I post because I want to tell you that you're not going to be hated for your questions. As you can see, there are people willing to help here. :)

If someone asks a question about beams, gets pointed at ZB's beam FAQ and then immediately asks another similar question answered in the FAQ then that is annoying. As far as I'm concerned I'm not here to spoon feed newbies.
However asking questions where the answer isn't obvious and where there isn't an obvious place to get the answer is not spoon feeding. Asking a question when you've spent even a little effort trying to figure out the answer for yourself is not spoon feeding.
Newbies are often worried cause other forums do berate newbies for asking simple questions due to the frequency they are asked rather than the difficulty they present to the newbie. I don't see the point in that. We all had to start somewhere and you never know who the next Blaise Russel might be. :)
-
well thankyou for good newbie attitude, every where else on the internet seems to attempt murder on noobs, ill try my best to find answers before asking here but i have a feeling i may be back very soon :)

Recently some crap did happen that made me think HLP was turning into another "STFU n00b" community (lol woutersmits).
-
That why i sticuk with HLP over other specialist forums that also enjoy a breath of RL convo. The tolerence, we need genetic diversity on here or it would stagnate :D
Too philosophical :nervous:

The majority of the forums you refer to are certainly structured in a different way.
If you'll be back with FRED related question I'll be one of the first members to reply  ;)

Quick question -- I'm also planning on adding custom music to my campaign. Is there a FAQ/HOWTO on the general topic of Music And FreeSpace 2 Open?
If not, my quick question is: What formats of music are supported by FS2 Open? E.g. ogg/mp3/wav(what codecs?)/midi
What format is the music in for the FreeSpace 2 campaign? MIDI, or some compressed sampled format?
Thanks

FS2_Open supports OGG and WAV. The standard music files are WAV, since retail only supported that, but the newer versions you will find in MV_Music are OGG.
