i have been replaying the old WC games (WC and WC2), and I have been itching to see those great ships in the FS engine. I was wondering if anyone would be interested in seeing this accomplished, would be willing to help (I can FRED, but I would need help modelling), or had some pointers (I have not modded the WCS build before).

I'd love to help but I can't model or FRED. If you need help with anything other than those I'll gladly lend a hand.

This is something that I want to see done very badly.
In fact I was thinking about learning to make models based off those old designs (does anyone remember the blueprints they released with the old Wing Commander games?). That said I'm practically useless at the moment, but if someone could point me to a couple of good resources for learning 3d modeling skills I might be useful in a few months...
Anyone?

im really busy right now, but im trying to learn so I could do this
if youre interested, we could work on it together in a few weeks

Perhaps one interesting move might be to save a few things like plot and models and to make them into a saga campaign? It might save his mod and release it in some form.
I would gladly send this proposition to iceblade but I'm banned from the CIC. Could anyone here do so?

Even if we take over the story and models it would still requiere people to work on it. The textures would most likely have to be completly replaced, models reworked and they would need people to FRED the missions since we have our hands full.
I think it might be easier to find some new leader for the project then to take it over into a complete new engine.

I see what you mean, but chances that it happens are virtually nul.
However, as saga grows, to preserve only the story for later on might be a good idea, as in general wcsaga (and the fred editor) can be much more flexible than secretops or flightcom.
Let's preserve the story to prevent this mod from dying, we'll see what time brings in next: there might be cadets attracted by saga but with no story to devellop. At least, that's what I think, though I could be wrong.
Could somebody PM this to iceblade on the CIC as I can't?

Right, I've had some news: Iceblade would be interested to give away the script of ranger's glory. I suggest that at least the story be kept in reserve for someone willing to make a WC saga camgaign with WC1 or 2 ships.
Now, are there volunteers to claim the story?

Hello, please note that this mod's story revolves around Wing Commander Prophecy and UE. I am also going to be helping out the new project leader with the plot and fiction for the first several months of starting.
The story involves a Border World's colonel and wing commander on a BW Ranger-class escort carrier known as the Relentless. There are other BW ships involved and the kilrathi enter into the equation as well. More details will be released on a need to know basis. *note that the new leader will have full discretion on the plot and especially the mission structure (already currently outlined)*

I'd like to replay the Wing Commander 1 and 2 stories using Saga.

I already have to do some work on red point (another WC mod) where I have to rewrite some english, and I also have the renegade legion MOD.
I think I'm unfortunately booked right now, besides, Designing missions I still need to learn.
However, I heard of someone attempting a landreich campaign , so that's why I thought perhaps another person might be interested in trying this...

Okay, never even heard of the place to be honest. Probably due in part that the only Wing Commander game I ever played was Privateer . . . and the WCS demo I guess too.

I was banned during the historical arena purges :shaking: where bandit loaf with his iron grip and poor sence of humour, decided that those who prefer fan projects like standoff or saga to WCarena should be forever banned as they are a danger to the WC world.

You may be right or not, but please stop calling other WC fans "idiot" or something similar.
There are always tensions between groups of fans but starting to insult them in another forum is certainly no solution for the problem. Nor does it help anyone.

I got an untextured Raptor somewhere and a basic version of a Bengal carrier.
Scooby made something like the PTC for one of his creations IIRC.

I think the polycount might be a bit high. It wasn't made for ingame use but as a just for fun experiment. But I think it could be fairly easily reduced to be used ingame. Most of the polys are in the engines and the barrels.
PS: Its based on the Clawmarks images. Thats why there are little differances to what you see ingame but on the other hand who can realy say what you see ingame with these big pixel blocks ^_^

The engines are indeed a bit smaller then in the original but as often the drawings where not quite fitting and there was also a bubble before the engine. I left that out to avoid the trouble with the bubble and made the exhaust pipe the over the entire length.

cant help with texturing, other than to say look at the stickied tutorial at the top of the modding board
coding is not required
all programs you need are free (although there are some commerical options)
you can learn pretty quick

If this ends up having flight model closer to the originals (with INERTIA!) then I'll be whooping with joy. If not, my inner child will be crying again.
