Title: CPU overload problems
Post by: rbxplayer on May 31, 2008, 12:04:13 pm
Hi all,

I usually play Freespace 2 with 3.6.10 build and 3.6.10 beta mvps with full graphical details; no problems

I have installed TBP, the final version and I cannot play it cause my CPU goes up to 100% and the PC starts beeping. Any ideas on how to solve this?

PC specifications:
AMD 4200+
4GB ram
Windows Vista
Geforce 8800 Graphics card

I installed TBP in a separate folder from Freespace and also tried reducing the Graphic detail but I still get the same problem

Your PC may be overheating.

what are your temps?  That could be many things, PSU going bad, bad memory, overclocked wrong.

It's the Maltese hot Summer. It's 30 degrees already... LOL

I need an air conditioner. Not too bad though. I finished all my Voice Acting scripts for Earth Brakiri in the mean time LOL

Sick. We had maybe 20 degrees tops today and even it was starting to feel exhausting.

On a non-related topic, how 'bout your computers temperatures? It might be running a bit hot.

Well, the top is 38 degrees in mid July. Solution. You go to work for 3 months in Malaysia... LOL as if it solves anything...

Anyway, the solution is getting an air conditioner.

Or else, if you suffer from sinusitis like I do, just open the PC, put a fan in front of it and place an ice pack just under the graphics card, works wonders...

Obviously I let the ice pack cool down a bit first and place a cloth under it. The good thing about the fan is that it circulates the air to avoid condensation.

After 2hrs, you have to stop playing freespace, put the ice pack back in the freezer, browse a bit and then repeat the process...
