Who plays RuneScape?
My username is jameslane9rh
-
No offense, but how old are you? To be honest, I played the game a few years ago, and now I think that it's s***.
-

-
Nope. Played it years ago, got to like level, 20 or so, and realized "Hey, it's the same thing over and over, just with a different colored rock!"
-
My little brother played RuneScape and Maple Story 24/7 on my computer. During those times I used my old school computer to surf the net (some old Windows 95/98... forgot what).
Me parents were like "You let your little brother play and you'll feel better later."
Don't.

Epic... Someone needs to put that in their sig :p
-
You'll never feel better for turning your brother into a mindless runefreak.
-
Maplestory and Runescape: Along with other Mimmorpughers, are the most overrated **** on the internet.
-
Off topic, but what's a 'Snufleupagus' ?
And Runescape can be fun if you play it for fun, and not some rainbow colored metal/armor, and a 'zomg yey I gots new lvl ^^'.
-
Off topic, but what's a 'Snufleupagus' ?
Big Bird's best friend. You know, that big, hairy, brown elephant that could talk.
-
When I was little I honestly thought it was a walking peice of **** with eyes.
-
It's actually Snuffleufagus, IIRC.
-
It's pronounced with a P. So there.
-
Shut up. I would rape you for that, if you were a woman. (and sexiness would be a prerequisite)

See, the problem with that is, A: I'm not, and B: I'm the sort who literally brings a gun to fistfight, nevermind a knife fight, so you wouldn't get that far.
-
N1gt - you're right, it's a P.
Cole - your comment wins as it made me cry tears of funny
I'm off to bed srsly. . .

I used to, then I stopped, for reasons that are unknown to me.
Later I picked up MapleStory and dropped it almost immediately. God, that is the single worst agglomeration of hand-drawn graphics ever to be classified as a "game", i.e. something to be enjoyed and played for fun. At least in RuneScape there was always something to do. In MapleStory, all you do is grind combat skills. Just whacking monsters, over and over again. You don't even train specific stats, you just entertain yourself by repeatedly pressing the attack button, then rebinding it to a different attack and hitting that over and over again, until weeks later you level up, and you receive an imperceptible increase in your button-mashing ability. The worst part is the community, which is so slobberingly mindless that they cannot be even bothered to type properly, nor in full sentences, nor with commonly accepted abbreviations. Upon entering a town, you will find it full of motionless idiots, all with the message "afk fame pl0x" or some bizarre rendition of those letters, frequently with random spaces inserted. And why "pl0x" as an abbreviation for "please"? Why? "plz" is the usual abbreviation, and "pl0x" just makes it one character longer. What finally made me quit, however, was my friends. I had played a Mage, and placed my points in several different skills, essentially whichever one appealed to me at the time. My friends, learning of this, told me I had "screwed up my character", and that I would never achieve my maximum damage output. They advised me to start over, weeks after I began.
Now, I can partially understand a game that feels like work, especially for children my age, who want something to care about and be knowledgeable about. A game that feels like life, however, is something I find hard to comprehend.

Holy Hell.
-
Imo, for it to be a game, it shouldn't be life like. I played Maple for all of 5 minutes.
-
I only played Maple Story because my friend wanted me to hack it.
No way I'm learning assembly language for a game that sucks so badly it's not even worth hacking. Even Neopets is better then that ****.
-
Lol. I played maple story and runescape at one paint in my life and I can safely say that both are utter pieces of ****e. I played runescape back in grade 6 to see what all the fuss was about. My ENITRE class would rush downstairs like lemmings at lunch, herd into the library and proceed to develop early onset arthritis. You literally COULD NOT find a computer in the whole goddamn place. I logged on, made a barely distinguishable mess of pixels termed a character and hopped in. Immediately I was surprised by the underwhelmingness of it, no music, no sound (although I've heard that the new version has some and from what I've sampled it's laughably bad) samey animations, limited skill use, boring quests, mindless NPCs, no guild support, magic was a laugh. The entire thing played like a 20 year old calculator game with barely any better graphics. Whether you were mining rocks, cutting trees or fighting enemies, you got the same goddamn animation but with a different tool in your hand (of which there was only one model with different colors) and it was absolutely mind numbing. Within days I had lost any idea of why I was clicking, watching the same crap I've seen a million times, moving and clicking again. Why? To watch a little number go up? Not a single stat, level or piece of equipment was appreciably different than the last and so, there was nothing to gain from playing apart from PVP which sucked hairy balls. No, the game came to life for me when I used it as a social experiment. See, runescape is like "babies first online game" in that 99.78% of it's users were under the age of 12 and were horrifically immature, angry, greedy, jealous and seething with pre-pubescent fury. The game's harsh punishment and slow reward system only aggravated their feverishly deluded psyches up till the point of madness. After a week of playing, I went into my search console, found Jagexs folder, edited my mining and smithing to 99 and made about 3 billion rune platemails and greatswords (sorry, plates and 2hs). I went around town, merrily sprinkling these greenish icons of 3 months of hard gameplay around in towns like Santa clause after snorting too much elf dust and cackled with malicious glee at the squeaky, candy filled foamy mouthed rage that ensued as everyone within 300 miles busted their hairless asses to get to the trail of goodies. When I ran out in my current inventory space, the majority started raging, pleading, begging and bargaining with the ones who picked one up like it was a package of 20 years of their life (which if you wanted to get one yourself, you were probably looking at that much time involved). I went to the bank, got more and soon had a merry procession of lifeless dorks following me all across the countryside a-la pied piper on an especially vindicative day. After half of the people following me perished (whos numbers constituted 9 out of 10 people who passed me on the road) I decided I was done, closed the application and meditated for the next day on how such a crusty, boring and cheap RPG had attracted ANY players, made MONEY off of said players and sucked them into this extra-dimensional world where a tiny number increasing gives you orgasmic pleasure. I tried runescape 2 when it came out and never went back again.
Then I tried maple story. I could honestly say I was entertained for about 3 days. It was at least more exciting than runescape, but after the fourth day of grinding cute blobs of jelly with faces into powder inside an overgrown tree, I realised it was almost just as bad. I stopped playing that too.
Anyone who has played either, ought to go out and find a decent MMO (there are lots of free ones out there) and never look back. Runescape is for children with scarcely enough intelligence to multiply and nowhere near enough social competence to engage in conversation for more than 5 minutes. Anyone who exceeds both these criteria is wasting their time and should head for greener pastures. Maple story is for terminal weaboos and easily excitable 6-year old girls with an incredibly alien concept of fun and a resistance to Chinese water torture approaching that of
a tire. Once again, I would advise someone with none of these traits (excluding that they have a huge wallet and nothing good to buy, in which case they should pimp their character and grief the hell out of everyone) to try something a little less soul crushing. Like a game with the MMO part attached rather than the opposite.

You've just described every muhmorpeger in existence, and I thank you for doing so. :D
-
I played Runescape. And got bored. Then I played Neverwinter Nights, and I am still addicted to Bioware games!
So, buy Neverwinter Nights or Baldur's Gate. Especially Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn. That will keep you playing for a gooood looong while. And will make you like hamsters.
-
I played runescape for about 15 minutes back in 8th grade because everyone else played it. I haven't touched it since.
-
8th grade? Wow these people are sad. The craze was over in like 5th grade in my school.
-
People in my class (grade 9) still play it. I know grade 12s who do.
-
Whoah... That's just frightening... Damn.
-
Whoah... That's just frightening... Damn.
Ditto. I stopped playing this game in ****ing grade three.
The craze over here is Pokemon cards (after 10 ****ing years they're still around, and banning them didn't do ****), and Maple story (which grade twelve's play)
Of course, all the kids in grades twelve, eleven, and seven are all idiots either way at my school. and the grade 8's are the most mature :doubt:
-
Pokémon also made a comeback last year. There isn't a really big thing now, just the asshoes/jocks thinking that they're huge nerds if they understand what a GPU driver is. And they all play COD4, and Halo 3, and go on about GamerTags and other BS and think that they're cool hardcore gamers.
-
Don't get that in my neck of the woods.
the jocks here are just idiots that think they are professionals at soccer. They won't stop talking about this thing called "R9" which I have no idea what is.
-
These (http://halifax.kijiji.ca/c-buy-and-sell-sports-bikes-Only-worn-three-times-Ronaldo-R9-Soccer-Cleats-Size-7-1-2-Mens-W0QQAdIdZ41935545)?
-
Maybe. They keep screaming "R9!!!!" Whenever they shoot the ball at the net.
-
Probably this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ronaldo).
-
Well, there is also "R6" "R1" "R0" and "R-half"
I have a dumb**** school.
-
Same. All the dumb ****s get on one's nerves after a while.
-
Thank god that at my school all the jocks are pretty intelligent (me included :D)
we still have the grade 10 dumbasses who think they are so cool cause' they smoke weed and have their learners permit
-
I've never played either, dunno anyone who has, and i've no idea what R9 is. I keep thinking "Release 9 of Inferno" which as we all know won't be ready for weeks.
-

Weeks? :wakka:
-
Yay! (he was drunk when he posted that)
-
While not entirely proper, his statement regarding the release date is technically correct.
E.g., 156 weeks.
-
Actually, it's not correct at all. Inferno Release 9 will never be released.
-
:wtf: i wasn't drunk when i said that . . I know there's no R9 t'was a joke :p
-
Oh.
-
What is Giaa? Somebody tell me. It looks obnoxious (surely a natural consequence of the japanese art style) and half of my school plays it, denying me access to the library's last-minute-essay-churners. Is it an RPG?
-
Gaia Online? Only possibly the worst weeaboo game out there. The kind folks at 4chan or ED will explain it better than I.
-
Erectile Dysfunction? :wtf:
-
Encyclopedia Dramatica. basically Gaia online is like a huge, Japanese mumorpugher, you build your little character and run around and do ****. Basically a ****ty Japanese Second Life.
-

Oi, this sounds like my kinda thing.
-
God, ****ing weeaboo.
-
I am. I openly admit it. Though, in reality, I'm not into mmumorpughers. Don' understand 'em. Don' care. Maybe EVE Online if I had time and/or money. But no.
-
I always despised mumorpuhgers because of people that you always have to compare against. I simply hate playing against people online.
That's why I play guild wars ;). CORPGs FTW!!!
-
I play WoW, but I play it for fun. Pure, absolute fun. I don't bother with raids and stuff like that. I just play it the way I like it.
-
I honestly had a bit more respect for you than haloboy until now
-
<twich twich>
-
"Twik twik"?
-
twitch as in sudden burst of movement
-
Well you misspelled it.
-
Yada Yada Yada :p
-
I believe you mispelled that...
-
Nope, not by Firefox's reckoning.
-
Firefox's spellchecker makes me so angry...
-
Why?
-
Why?
It's essentially crap. It combines British English and American English in the most ungodly way possible, or at least my version does.
-

There is a Godly way of combining British English and American English?
-
Canadian English
-
ay.
-
ay.
It's spelled "eh".
Even the FF spell checker says that is wrong
-
there you go - Canadian
-
-
Yeah - Damn Right Haloboy
-
Looks like the Canadian inquisition currently has a hold on the forum. We have to get rid of sizzler to make our conquest complete.
-
:nervous:
I'm a smart Canadian. Let's stop spamming before someone in our ranks is Monkeyed. :nervous:
-
Good call. Destroy them in secret, from within the inner workings of HLP. Melt to the shadows, my brother in arms.
-
Well said. We must be shadow of a ghost...
Now let's get back on topic.
-
What was the topic?
Oh yeah. MMOs suck.
My friend (this is 100% true, no exaggeration) downloaded 1 MMO per 3 days for about 3 months last year. And then he wondered why his computer can't do anything without crashing. What's more, he can't play FSO!
-
i played runescape for about a week and then realised hang on i just walked past the exact same place doing the exact same thing for the 10th ****ing time. but man those little idiots are annoying - watch the little mmophugers or whatever chase the guy with the shiny axe WHOOPEE
-
I'd rather at least have a sex MMORPG so I can hit girls with my Staff of Penetration +5
-
No way, the Wooden Forest Dildo pwns all. And it has a heterosexuality multiplier of *.1
Or the Condom of Buttsex Enlightenment.
-
....

I'm -80 years old!

Tinfoil. . . .
Why :( why did you do it?
this thread is completely done. there is nothing more to say about mmorpgs - they suck there i just summed up the whole thread. lock please

What a shame. This thread was actually a good read when everyone was posting their anecdotes...
-
ok lets pretend there was no spam and we just go from where we left off??
Ive got one. my brother's friend completely filled up his hard drive with mmorpgs and he is now desperately asking why he can't put more on. Classic mmophuger

Uh. Your link points to the RA3 thread. I can swear to God thats not an MMO.
-
i saw a Maple story ad there.
-
Stop replying to this thread, damn it. :hopping:
-
he said something and i replied because it was directed at me - you got a problem with that?
-
Replying is fun. Up until the point when all the replies turn into spam.
-
:sigh:
You guys shouting at him for spamming are just as bad as he is. And thus, so am I.
-
what the hell is so wrong about answering that. it was practically asking why i posted the link. i told him why i posted the link and now you people are mad about it.
this place is a mental asylum.
-
This thread is so evil that we should stop posting here. I think that was the point in this discussion.
-
thank you Lobo. Now everyone SHUT... THE... ****... UP
-
:doubt:
Tinfoil. Calm down.
