Title: Campaign editor problems and resolutions
Post by: emi_100 on June 02, 2008, 01:42:29 am
Every time that I click on the "campaing editor" menu the Freed editor crash.

I've try with the fred2_open_3_6_9, fred2_open_3_6_9_debug, fred2_open_3_6_9_debug_INF and fred2_open_3_6_9_INF... but all crash.

... that means I can't finish my campaing?  :hopping:
really sucks! :sigh:

help! help people! LOT of work for nothing.... :(

I get this too (unsurprising since I built the FRED builds for TBP). Run the debug build. It works perfectly.

Run the INF debug build ! It the only one that didn't crash in my PC.

Okay now that is interesting. I've NEVER gotten the debug build to crash when running the campaign editor, that's the main reason I couldn't fix the bug.

Is it actually crashing or is it simply displaying an error and allowing you to press No to continue?

Is it giving you any error message at all?

Microsoft errors arent that useful...

If the FRED-d was the last debug build you run... Could you go to your main freespace directory and find fs2_open.log from the data directory? The last entries of that file (last 5 or so lines that is) might be of some use..

I see multiple registry errors ... not sure whether its your problem. I doubt it, though. But i see multiple tree node resets, not to mention the EA Avenger warnings.

The campaign editor doesn't work?

The debug one works perfectly for me. The release one crashes on opening or closing occasionally but seeing as how no one else ever reported the error for any of my builds I've always figured it was just me.

I just tried it now and both worked just fine.

... that means I can't finish my campaign?  :hopping:
really sucks! :sigh:

I feel the need to point out that we had an extensive beta testing programme. We gave you (the public) this version of the game as a beta for you to find these bugs. So I hope you're not hopping mad at me or the TBP team? In fact if there's anyone who has a right to be mad here it's probably me at the shoddy beta testing.

Anyhow. As with Kara's comments the debug build seems to work better and the crash in the non debug build does not appear to be consistent. So heed the advice here and try on different system configurations.

I think CAMPAIGN EDITOR always crashed on me too.
The DEBUG one worked I think, but haven't tried for some time now.

 Honestly I don't know why I bother. Please will someone report this in the SCP forum and put it into the MANTIS bug reporting system so it's fixed in the 3.6.10 game engine. Otherwise - stop complaining.

You've missed your chance to have a stable campaign editor in TBP. You should have beta tested it when you had the chance. I have no sympathy for you.

Hope I am not too late to complain...

- don't know how to mantis
- ESCORT aurora starfury has no gliding ( not so important )
- no glowmaps on texture replacement
- don't know how to override table entries for a specific mission
- CAMPAIGN EDITOR crashes on startup
- no one loves people who complain....

It's already in Mantis. Been there for ages actually.

Actually, like IP, I didn't care either.

People are doing campaigns, so the editor works with SOMEONE.
I just planned to send the complete set of campaign mission over to someone with a working editor, who would click together the campaign for me  :D

campaign editor does work. But it crashes sometimes (mostly when either starting, saving or loading). That was the case when I started fredding and it still is.

Tutorial by Vid how to overcome the CampaignEditor issues
open fred
DONT LOAD A MAP, use a blank one
if it crashed, try again. Keep tryining until you get the editor to open.
edit all the options, missions, descriptions and so on your campaign needs
dont save until you are finished
when you are finished (and be sure you are, loading does not work well on my PC), use the save as option and pray

works most of the time for me.

HOWEVER I NEVER TRIED THE DEBUG BUILD, that one may work flawlessly

Well.... yes. But having ANYTHING to do with TBP is of no purpose anyway.

It would be  far better if we would be
- sexually satisfying women
- working harder to gain more money or going career
- looking for spiritual enlightment
instead.

Greetings :)

P.S:
If I'd only post if I had something important to say, I had to be rather silent.
I need to vent steam somehow.... yesterday I wasted 2 hours in futile attemps to make a subtitle work in EACW mission 2... until I found out I supposedly accidentally deactivated JPG/TGA support in the launcher.
Afterwards I did not know if I should cheer ( it finally worked ) or beat up my room.

Besides.... I hope for FUBAR to post the link to the last missing voiceactor roles. I hope to get this over with within the week, just waiting for the last lines to finish EACW teaser :)
