No no, no dirt! Paneled Y-wing should be new and shiny!

The rebels have not discovered soap, therefore it shall be dirty.

Besides, it'd be weird to have a fleet of dirty rebel ships and one immaculate, clean one.

Titan enjoys seeing his favorite SW ship in a suit of (semi) shining armour.

Titan realizes his shirt is wet from his own drool

 :yes2::yes: FACEHUGGER!

needs more dirt, actually.  streaks from leading edges, panel lines, and maybe a couple burn marks.

Seriously I'm gonna ban Cole and Titan from this forum if you guys keep trying to creep out the devs with drool and sexual innuendos.

You really want to ban them for telling the truth? :D

Dirtier

Gave the panel lines some dirt around them, and a few more streaks around the leading edges, as requested

Back when I was serving in the Greek Air Force, I spent many hundreds of hours guarding A-7 Corsairs.

Of course the ones I guarded were a lot "dirtier" from heavy use.
Anyways the last version captures the "in use" image of airplanes still in my mind, along with the heavy smell of air fuel, and engines testing on the background.

This last picture, is perfect!

Glad to hear that someone who's worked around dirty and dingy equipment is commending my efforts!  I've never really been around anything like that so all of my weathering is pretty much from me looking and pictures and kinda interpolating.  Glad to see I'm pretty close!

Ok, now lets all shut up with the special requests and let them finish.  :D

Looking great, brandx0.  Those Y-wings are flawless from the screens I can see.  Also, you're productivity is starting to motivate me and it's great when the project starts picking up pace.  I'm probably going to redo my models from scratch again as they weren't too poly efficient and had some things that I generally wasn't fond of in terms of end result (particularly the rebel transport).

Good to hear about the motivation, look forward to seeing an even better Z-95 :)

Also, since you're redoing the Gallofree, keep in mind that it could serve as the GR-45 as well as the GR-75 if you build it right.

Well, if multi-docking is going to be implemented, I'd rather have the cargo pods be seperate objects as it will allow for customization in missions as well as keep them looking different.

Multidocking has been implemented for a while now by Goob actually. :)

You model fans may all ogle the nice shapes and dirty panels, but what I think of is all the FRED-ing possibilities with this many textures to go with the same model.

Using the texture replacement sexp, you could have "elite" (and bright, shiny) honor guard units escorting the Rebel Representatives in a meeting with some Corporate Worlder bureaucrat. As a campaign wears on, you could start out with relatively clean ships and with the progress of missions the ships could get dirtier and dirtier, and by adding some briefing and mission chatter you can truly drive home the impression that the techs, pilots and the whole fleet detachment is under great pressure and fatigue from constant combat.

Another thing: brandx0, you're either going to hate me or hate me and still like the idea.
Did you replace the old geometry, or did you add a non-targetable subsystem over the internals? Beacuse if you did the later, than the panels can be blown off in-mission and the internal will be exposed.
Title: Re: Y-Wing with Panels
Post by: chief1983 on June 06, 2008, 11:41:08 am
He attempted to do that, however the expose internal geometry doesn't actually fit inside the paneled version.  So sadly it's two different models.

Post by: brandx0 on June 06, 2008, 02:05:42 pm
Yeah, my original version of the panelled one had the entire unpanneled model fit inside of it, but that was one ugly chunky monkey.  Whoever designed the panelled version didn't actually look at the original model for reference, and thus I decided to make a nicer looking one that didn't fit overtop of the old one

That may explain another reason whey the Y-wings had their panels removed. The original version was more advanced, but most of the users of these fighters (and the manufacturer towards the end of the production run) did not have access to the more advanced components, and so had to replace them with less efficient version which had to be larger to get the same effectiveness, and due to the tight fit inside the fighter, the external panes had to be removed to fit these components in.

Or the Y-wing's been around long enough that hotrodding has ensued.
