Title: Rank Dependant Tech Descriptions and intel - is it possible?

Is it possible to make Intelligence entries in the Techsubject to you're rank...ie information about secret project only becomes available when you have achieved the rank of Captain?

As an extension i would like to know if it's possible to do something similar for Tech-descriptions of ships...ie, when you first enounter the omega-X destroyer in TBP and you're ranked ensign-Commander, it reads "ALL INFORMATION EYES ONLY". Then when you become a Captain the description changes to a proper description of the ship.

AFAIK its not possible.  It would be a cool feature to have though...

I agree it would be a cool feature to add. So far the only way i can figure is to have two versions of the TBL entry, but that cuts down on the ship limit

      Yeah, it would be cool, but honestly who's going to notice it? :) Don;t know how many people actually read the tech room on a regular basis when playing mods. It's usually assumed  (by me anyway) that the MODder hasn't changed anything.

I do. I want to see what's new/different ie new ships/ different intel entries. First thing i did for INF R1 and Blue Planet...And long before i first got FS1+2, I had copied all the ship entries from Tech FreeSpace.

Besides...in my Crusade mod, for TBP, im adding a wholeslew of new ships (read: some imported from other FS Mods), hacking existing ships and changing the music. it would be well worth the time to check out the Tech Room

Um, I had some...plans...involving having a separate set of techroom entries depending on selected campaign (for ships/weapons too).

I don't see it happening anytime soon, though.

         When you do your mod make sure you list that feature as one of your "selling points" so people don't overlook it.

It's almost possible. You can mess with tech descriptions and stuff with scripting, you just can't get the rank of the player.
