Title: Mind-reading progresses
Post by: WMCoolmon on June 02, 2008, 10:13:27 pm
But beware the slashdot effect (http://science.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=08/06/02/1720200)

However there was one very insightful comment:

Quote from: Roxton
<tinfoil_hat>
What would be creepy about this mind reading technology is the possibility that it would get out of tune the more you change the way you think. This would encourage you to change back to your old ways of thinking. Essentially, it's a subtle mind-stasis device.

And the personal responsibility people will be, like, "So what? You can suck it up and spend a week recalibrating if you want to. Who cares if most people don't? It's about choice, not consequences."
</tinfoil_hat>

Apologies.

This (or at least a variant of it) could have great potential in cybernetics. The other applications are a bit too orwellian for my taste.

Undoubtedly. I'm sure that at some point, it will revolutionize art/sex as well.

I'm sure it will. As I've said in the past if women could read minds none of us would be getting any. :p

I felt compelled to read this for some reason. . . I think Karajormas post drew me here. . I felt a great disturbance in the bloke force. Like a billion farts were jet out then extinguished.
I'm so glad that my braincase is NOT read-only:)

 :wtf:

Is there a subtle point to the great disturbance stuff, or is that just all exposition?

Slight exposition. Slight tired brain. Slight rambling. . . I agree with Karajorma in short :p

:lol: I don't know much about this science, but this seems like a huge leap.

Mind-reading prostitutes? That sounds like a fast way to identity theft and/or blackmail.
