Hi there, I'm just woundering how you are going to manage to cloak enemies (stackra) AND the player's ship (excalibur) under the FS engine?
Could help me with the RL mod one day...
-
Perhaps if nothing helps, a texture replacement to all-black combined with invisible on radar ?
-
I wouldn't worry. Tolwyn's been working on this for years. If i know him, he's gone through everything possible.

Yes, I am fabulous.

I remember when i was on the team, *drifts of to nostalgia land* What year was that, seems like an eternity.....
-
2002, I believe. Right before your deployment.
-
wait, I could have sworn I saw a video of a fighter cloaking and decloaking a year or so ago... Might have been a different mod, but I'm positive I saw it.
-
It was probably Nuke's attempt here:

 I found this statement hilarious.

What about in game cloaking? I'm pretty sure you can't change the texture in game.

I guess, you have never heard any of my metaphores yet. C'mon, sit on granpa's lap... ;)
Cloaking is indeed doable, just like the autopilot sequences. Requires complex scripting and is commonly used for Kilrathi vessels.

Correct. Go search our archives. Has little to do with the final result, but it was, at least, a proof of concept. ;)

Hmm, if you can cloak a fighter, might you be able to cloak a capital ship? Could be useful for other projects...
-
Goober (?) made a mission that cloaked a Pegasus some time ago. Don't remember when, but it looked like a texture-replacement from normal texture to invisible textures, with a transition animation between them...

Would it help you, if I say 'yes'?

That could be Phreak you're thinking about. I know for certain he did some work on cloaking years ago.
-
Oh yes, it would help me! Good to know. Many thanks tolwyn! ;)
-
You misspelled 'Strakha' ;)
-
Hmm, dammed hilkathi language! :D
-
Cloaking capital ships are relavant to my intrests.
-
I imagine there is no reason why you couldn't also cloak a capital ship. Are you thinking of the jamming ship in WC4?
-
This, or other projects: The RL mod could use this.
-
I'd say the only reason that cloaking a capital ship might not be useful is if you've already seen it ...you can just keep firing at it. Its there, its just invisible and not targetable.
-
Well if it hadn't been seen yet, you could use it sort of like a sub.
-
mostly, the question lies here!
-
Well if it hadn't been seen yet, you could use it sort of like a sub.
Thats true and it could be quite spectacular if a cap ship were to suddenly decloak :)
-
Yea, although how do you not notice a 10,000 ton ship even if its invisible is beyond me. But have a cloak capable cap ship is cool in the regard that you can use it for like sneak attack missions.
Imagine if the target is just sitting there, off guard, and suddenly, BAM, it gets smashed up in the back by a cloaked cap ship.
Thats true and it could be quite spectacular if a cap ship were to suddenly decloak :)
Quite ? Not just quite. Amazingly spectacular.

... as it simultaneously opens up with all available firepower / or transmits a demand for immediate surrender. ;7 Imagine four of five such ships sneaking into position around a convoy, then decloaking along with a surrender transmission... or better yet, a little scout ship transmits, and as you're going ", :wtf: ", you suddenly stop laughing :nervous: :eek2: as the capships decloak. hehe

I remember a scene like that once ... dunno which movie it came from, though.

Possibly a star trek one. ?
My personal favourite use would be Dragons using a Flashpak on that civilian station.
-
It was a Star Trek The Next Generation episode. A Romulan defects with news of what he believes to be Romulan intent to start a war, starting with a base being built in the Neutral Zone. The Enterprise enters the zone to investigate and is intercepted by three Type B Warbirds, also known as D'deridex class, under the command of one Commander Tomalak, played by the late Andreas Katsoulas. They demand that Picard hands over the traitor. Picard refuses. They threaten him, saying, "You will not survive our assault." Picard responds, "And you will not survive ours." Three Klingon K'vort class warships decloak, having been in squadron formation with the Enterprise the whole time they were in the zone.
