Title: RELEASE - Surrender already, Belisarius!
Post by: SuperSonic_ht on June 04, 2008, 12:51:16 am
Its finally released...
Its a suprise 'wtf' map so please don't spoil the details.

Here's the link:-
<a href="http://files.filefront.com/Surrender+already+Belisarszip/;10486218;/fileinfo.html" title="Surrender_already_Belisars.zip">Surrender_already_Belisars.zip[/url]

Hope you like it. Give me some advice on how I can make it better.

Also, do read the file info at Filefront. And dont ever run this in FSO debug mode else it'll crash.

A good effort, but slightly inferior to The Second Great War Part II.

Why do you refer to the mission as a "map" in the readme?  :wtf:

I was about to download it and try, but this is beginning to sound too scary. Especially that SGW2 reference, hmm.

Quick move to the Author. I'm against all orders looking in Fred. You forgot to attach the squadron logo too.

I think JAD may have played a small part in inspiring here. . . .

jojojo it's some kind of testing mission you made???

well modifications are interesting, or maybe it's just for me becouse Ive just finished making the FRED walktrough :P

How do you make that BIG explotion?? though it gets a little slower when expanding and looses it's eye caching qualities, If you can make it happen faster it`s gonna look good ^^

rot.

Set custom explosion in FRED. Under the Ships menu, IIRC.

And what's with all the flaming? You guys sound like FacePunch.

did you paste the mission file over Freespace/data/missions/  ??

if not do that and then go to the mission simulator in fs2.

Umm...didnt I mention this was a 'wtf' mission? What were y'all expecting? Derelict Part II?

And yes, this is kinda like a testing map, especially because Im not a pro with FRED like you guys.

Good thing its only v.1.0 and not a public release, Im expecting some suggestions here. This is only a skeleton template. Did it work in FS2 Retail?

I don't know what you were trying to achieve by making that mission, but I'm pretty sure you didn't get very far.

DW, make sure that you aren't using mods. (other than MVPs)

And look for it in the tech room under single missions and not in the campaign room!

I did click the "no mod" button on the launcher, and accessed it from the tech room. No go.

The mission goes in \FreeSpace2\data\missions.

Mmk, played it through...
Spoiler:
there are three capships that arrive and get destroyed, plus the fighter that you take out.  Mmk, interesting blast waves, but IDK what else...

Ok ok Im gonna start making a new version. And this time, Ill remove the squadron picture, it wasnt good at all. After all, this is just a template.
About the error message, I have no idea, but perhaps it has to do with the coloured text in the briefing. Ill try something.

What exactly are you trying to do with this mission? Be funny? Or is this, like, practice or something? Cause if it is practice, I seriously recommend making missions that make sense.

Jeez, do you guys have to be harsh? :doubt:
Spoiler:
I still have to agree with them on some of their options. I also have a good feeling your going to start yelling at me now... shame.

There are a lot of games where "missions" are called "maps"...

Mostly FPS games.

It always irritated me a bit when someone coming into the Descent community used the term "maps;" it kind of implies a two-dimensionality that's the exact opposite of what's desired in that particular game.  Most of the Descent regulars generally called them "levels," since that was the term used in the original singleplayer.  "Mission" is really all that works for FS, considering that the ships themselves are the only real points of reference/import in-game.

I stabbed anyone who called a descent level a map.

Wow, a new excuse for off-topic-ing!

As I said earlier, this just came as a random idea even before I heard of FSO...
Expect real maps from me now...

Geez, no one has a sense of humor anymore...
