Why the question mark?

Just for the sake of the question mark. Actually, I wanted to make sure that I understood the point correctly and was able to count past three succesfully. Mobility Radeon X1600.

Aah! right, level 17 for me then.
Actually I got an 9550 too, on my secondary comp. But I think its the weakest 9550 model of all (passively cooled 64bit version).

Mine's actually a beast as far as 9550s go, 256 MB, 128-bit, fan cooled.

I thought the 8800 Ultra was still the top dog.

Anyway, if I understood correctly I'm level 9 with Mobility X700.

13.

My card is a 7600GT, although it's factory overclocked to be a lot better than NVidia's reference model of 7600GT, so I don't know if the comparision is all that accurate.

Reference clocks are, AFAIK, 560/1400MHz for core/memory; mine defaults to 650/1600 MHz. So... 16% faster than stock 7600GT for core (processing power), 14% for memory (bandwidth).

Pfft. No. There are like 2 new gens of ATi cards out, and a new gen (which isn't really new) of nVidia.

GeForce 9600 GT (brand-new... got it for my birthday).

Level 22, then.

But the 8800 ultra still tops any ATI card out there and from what I've heard only the 9800 gx2 edges ahead but it's a kind of dual card setup (well, you get the point).

I guess I would be in 19. That list is poorly written though and has too many categories. There are many cases of very similar cards that are in different brackets.

The new stuff is coming out in two weeks though. I'll probably buy a 280 on launch day. I have been holding upgrading for almost a year now because I kept waiting for this release based on rumors. :p

The 8800U is superior to all of them except the dual GPU cards, which have their own issues and aren't directly comparable to the rest.

Query: How in the Hell is a 6800 (insert any version here) better than a 7600 GS?

But the 8800 ultra still tops any ATI card out
Wrong. It's been trumped by the 3870X2, and the new ATis will soon be out.

the list is best in terms of bang for your buck, not performance.

yes but its essentially a 2 vidcard setup so there should be 2x ultras to counter it :)

a 6800 is also better performance wise than a 7600gs
the 7600gs is a cut down 7600gt and a 6800gt is only 10% slower than a 7600gt while the 7600gs is at least 25% slower than a 7600gt

Thought I was 4  :( but then realised my FX5200 is the 128 bit version making a 5  :)

However, seeing how low down that list it is, I can still play with advanced effects (MediaVP 3.6.10) and most setting's turned up high and still get between 20-60FPS :wtf:

No, it's purely performance based.

Nuke is right.

From the site:
Quote
You can use this hierarchy to compare the pricing between two cards, to see which is a better deal, and also to determine if an upgrade is worthwhile. I don’t recommend upgrading your graphics card unless the replacement card is at least three tiers higher. Otherwise, the upgrade is somewhat parallel, and you may not notice a worthwhile difference in performance.
Title: Re: What level are you on?
Post by: colecampbell666 on June 05, 2008, 02:18:28 pm
No. This is comparing the cards in pure performance terms. You look at where they stand, and then compare the prices.

Title: Re: What level are you on?
Post by: colecampbell666 on June 05, 2008, 06:34:43 pm
Yes, but that doesn't seem to apply to the chart. Is a GX2 the best value?
Title: Re: What level are you on?
Post by: Dark Hunter on June 05, 2008, 06:36:07 pm
Best value in terms of price versus results the card delivers.

Of course, this is all based on this one guy's calculations. He may be wrong.

This machine is a 10 and it's about 5 years old.  My Core2quad which I use to play these days is a 22.    :pimp:

Don't even see my other video cards on the list.  I do have an X1050 but it can't be one of the ones on the list because it's eiter a 384 or 512 meg card.  Nothing close to my media pc  ATI all-in-onder is even listed.  Other card is a Nvidia EN62--TC512 whatever that is.  I know it's a 512 meg but without opening up the case that's about it.

last time i looked at video card benchmarks, my card was pretty low on them. the reason the 8800 gts 640 is number 4 on this list is because you can get it for half of what it retailed for when it debuted. i spent +- 600 bucks on mine, so im not getting much bang for my buck :D

Isn't that weird? Your card is way ahead of mine yet I can play with almost full effect!  :P

Additional details:- It's an AGP card

CPU is a AMD Athlon 1500
Memory = Only 512mb PC133  :yes:

This rig shouldn't be able to handle this but does!

EDIT * 3.6.9 lagged dreadfully however*
