Title: aim cursor at different place
Post by: griffon67 on June 04, 2008, 02:26:19 pm
hello,
in a mod, I made my own ani for the aiming cursor (the one which tell you where your laser will fire) but on the 3.6.9 normal build the cursor is in the center, but in the build "fred2_open_3_6_10-Xt_0314" the cursor is a little bit lower and then isn'twhere you fire your laser.
Is it a known bug ? should I redo my ani ? is there somewhere where I can fix it ?

If you styled it after the original ANI, it should be OK, if it's the same size and positioned on the image in the same place.

There are a lot of different factors that could cause what you're saying - including the code not being set up to center a reticule of different size, to distortion caused by improper FOV scaling.

I've just tested with original game (no mods) and thought the space between the cursor and where you fire is lower (or it's just my imagination) there is still a difference, you don't fire where your cursor is.
=> the bug is executable related Oo ?

Can you post the cursor here so we can take a look at it?

Is it the one you used in your screenshots (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,54281.msg1097623.html#msg1097623)?

Isn't that the BtRL cursor?

And I get this too, especially noticeable on the Sekhmet/Boanerges. The firing points/convergence or whatever are waaaaayy off.

I never noticed my cursor was that similar to the one of btrl, although I played the demo and found the hud very cool...
and yes this is the one I used in my screenshots.
I tried other ships and as cole said, on some you have a very high difference between firing point and convergence even with the standard game.

I'll post the ani of my cursor this evening.

Is the crosshair only misaligned or is the entire reticle misaligned? This could be a problem with the free look/slewing.

since I didn't noticed any change in the placement of the central cursor I would say it's the whole hud which is misplaced
could it be that the new change view (when you want to look behind you) is the cause of all this ?

Along with your ANI, post screenshots please.

The cross hair for me is in the range of, I'd say, about 20-40 PX above where it should be.
