Title: How do I program the POV toggle stick on my Joystick?
Post by: foolfromhell on June 04, 2008, 07:40:33 pm
I dont use the POV stick. I dont need to look behind me, etc (waste of time and I use the 3D radar).

How do I program it to accelerate or decelerate, etc,?

I have a brand-new Saitek EVO Force. The FS2 Options doesnt recognize the movement of the POV stick.

Find out the axes that are associated with it, I don't know where you'd go from there.

And I don't think it would work, as the stick reverts to the original position when let go.

Just for temporary lowering of speed. Like when you are chasing a bomber and are right behind him.

Map accelerate/decelerate keys to hat up/down? :nervous:

Although I would use (and do) hatswitch to manage subsystem and turret targeting rather than ship movement, since I keep one hand on stick and another on tab (afterburner) and that hand can easily also take care of accelerations and decelerations if needed. A throttle quadrant would be cool but somewhat of an overshoot for this game (dead useful for simulations though).

Well, I cant map it. It wont accept it when I click on the button to change the key mapping and then move the POV stick.

This is my joystick. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41G9TeXCxhL.jpg

I have a throttle on the bottom of it, closer to me. The part with the lines? How do I make that work as a throttle instead? That would be easy. The afterburner is keyed into my key anyway, so I dont need any hands on the TAB button. My hands are on K, S, B, and T and the Delete, End, and Pg. Down keys for shields, etc. I cant do like 5 things at the same time. The POV stick, which is right next to my secondary triggers would be the easiest.

isn't there any software given with the joystick which would allow you to program your own keys ?

Ya, but if the input isn't recognized by the game...

you use the saitek profiler

That works?

since the saitek program allows you to program your POV with keyboard touches you can do something like that POV-down = e key for example

There should be no reason why the game would not register hatswitch commands when you try to bind them to controls...

Do the other buttons work okay? Can you bind them to any controls?

...you did press "Bind" button after selecting the command, then pressing the appropriate button? :nervous:

If else fails, and if you're not using Saitek's profiler for any other games, try wiping out Saitek's driver and software (good luck with that though, getting the driver off your PC might be something of a tricky business...). The driver and/or software might be making FS2_Open not read control inputs from the stick properly, though I don't know how exactly... At any rate, Saitek stick is pretty generic USB interface gaming controller so WinXP's default game controller drivers take care of it quite perfectly well. Which means that if you don't use the profiler, you should have no need to install either drivers of the profiler software for this controller.

Weird...

FS2 wont recognize my joystick anymore and the Launcher doesnt have it under its options...
