Title: FS retail disk swapping issue
Post by: starlord on June 06, 2008, 10:16:44 am
Hi there, just need a little help here:

I reinstalled FS and after having completed the main campaign, I installed silent threat. However, just after the install, when I try to run freespace, the game gives me a "wrong disk" error, whether it's FS disk 1, FS disk 2, or silent threat I'm inserting.
I had this problem everytime I installed the bogger but they seem to continue right now (restarting the comp didn't change anything).

Any ideas?

FSO and FSPort.

I know! But I want to stick with retail a little longer!

When I put disk one in and start, no error message is displayed, but the game doesn't start: The mouse just turns hourglass, then normal again: Back to desktop, no black screen or anything no matter anytime I try.

I guess that's original Silent Threat for you; a pile o' bugs. Nearly impossible to finish without pain and suffering. You can cut down the graphical settings with FSPort so that it will resemble retail, hmm.

I have to make this thing work somehow!

I managed to do so 3 times before that! There must be a way!

this must have happened to at least one of you.

Set it to Win98 compatibility mode in the properties?

Be sure you patched FS to 1.07EAX... you must re-patch after installing Silent Threat, as it down-grades you to 1.03 or .04 IIRC... but I know you need to re-patch after installing it.  Patch to 1.07, then 1.07 > 1.07EAX.  ;)  Oh, and set to Win '95 compatibility, kara says that has a higher success rate.

I'm running win98 on my machine. Oh, and indeed it's necessary to patch to 1.06. However, I had to reinstall FS since when I ran the patch it hept telling me that the old file was not found. this time though it did work. Wierd!

Anyway, silent threat, here I come ;7

Eh, I stand corrected, it is 1.06EAX, not 1.07.  Patch to 1.06, then 1.06EAX.  :sheepish:
