Title: A Note on Lodging
Post by: BlueFlames on June 06, 2008, 08:37:39 pm
Econo Lodge (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Econo_Lodge) can afford to provide all of their guests with wireless internet at no additional charge.

Diamond Resorts (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diamond_Resorts_International) cannot.

Incidentally, anybody who may have made bets in the past about my ability to survive without internet access for durations up to two weeks will have to pay up....

I've been on vacation in the Williamsburg, VA area for the last couple of weeks.  On the drive out, I stayed overnight at an Econo Lodge and stayed at my grandparents' timeshare (maintained by Diamond Resorts) for the rest of the vacation.  I found it slightly stupid that a budget hotel provided more amenities, network access most importantly for a dork like myself, than a luxury resort.

I've run into this same situation in the past. An internet connection is often essential these days especially during business trips and you would think that the more expensive and fancy hotels would be the first to include it, but it's often the other way around.

My dad also had this issue recently in some hotel in Prague. They were charging an absurd $35/day for an internet connection which kept dropping out every few minutes, although I think he got his money back after raising a stink with them the next morning.
