Title: Sentryguns can't be in wings?

Now that I just tried it I remember this from retail.  For some reason you can't make a wing of anything with the sentrygun flag.  Don't know what the logic behind it is though.  I mean you can have wings of cap ships (not that it's a good idea) but not guns?  Seems kind of strange.

I think it's something to do with the fact they cannot move, so there's no point going through the whole orders AI with them, the sentrygun flag would, I expect, tell the code to ignore certain AI stuff that would normally be done. I'd guess that wing-based stuff is one of those things, though that's all guesswork.

Might prove interesting for the Star Wars team, if there's one thing I remember about the old Star Wars games, it was 'Fly here. Blow up about 40 mines.'. Hated those missions, btw ;)

Actually there's some good reason to make them organized in wings - you could make a player-controllable gun battery. Might not be as advantageous if you had to individual each of 40 sentry guns to attack your target with the ships menu. :D

I was going more of a ground based pop up turret system without using too many ships. 

Another way I thought of using them would be spawning mines in front of a ship the player is escorting.  Player kills off a couple of them you spawn a few more.  Escort ship gets out of range of the old mines you self-destruct them and let the next wave spawn.  Stick it in a asteroid field and ...........  well that's as far as I got thinking on that idea.

Self destruct? Won't that seem a little wierd to the player? Why not ship-vanish? (When player's not looking).

Ship vanish has that little don't use in multi disclaimer.  I think there is another sexp that can be used with self-destruct to eliminate the derbies and stuff.
