This'll sound dumb to all of you, but what is it to "unrar" the file? Vista doesn't know what to do with it...
/me awaits massive snickering
-
You need WinRaR. Get it at http://www.rarlabs.com
-
NO! Get 7Zip (http://www.7-zip.org). Much better, and open-source and free. No bloat, either.
-
cole, stop acting like a noob. He asked about unrar, not about extracting a 7z archive. I went with the program designed for it.
-
7Zip can unRAR, and it's superior in almost every respect. It can compress to higher ratios, it's faster, it's smaller, it's cleaner, it's not bloated and doesn't ***** about "BUY ME NOW!!!!!!1!!!1!11!1".
-
None of which matters to answer his question. Again, stop acting like a frelling n00b.
-
But he'll be better off in the future, and what difference does it make? He'll probably need the compatibility in the future.
And I'm the n00b? Who's doing all the flaming and not making any comments to back up his argument, instead of stating facts?
The 15 year old, or the guy twice his age? Now go to bed.
-
7pip is besst . Dun use winrar. Wing commander is cool and Coleis the man
-
Now you're acting like a n00b too? Oh brother...
-
Not n00b, my good man. Drunk. There is a difference. A big difference.
Now then. I will also promote 7-Zip here.
Advantages of 7-Zip compared to WinRAR: free (as in really free), smaller, resource-friendly, doesn't automatically seize all possible file types but rather let's the user make the desicion, is also available as a portable edition (runs directly from a USB stick for example), can compress to several formats and can extract even more formats.
Disadvantages of 7-Zip compared to WinRAR: cannot compress to .rar due to legal conflicts or something, has a sort of reputation as the archive tool of the gurus, not that well-known among the average dumdum users.
-
The reason that they can't use .RAR but WinRAR can use .7z is because .7z is open-source, and can be used by anyone. .RAR is closed source, so the guy who makes 7-Zip would have to reverse-engineer .RAR even further than he has to be able to compress to .RAR. Or summat like that.
-
The end result is that either WinRAR or 7ZIP will do nicely in answering the question asked by the original poster. Lets cut calling people n00bs and so forth.

Rarzilla is what I use. Works fine for me...
