Title: SGWP2
Post by: DarthWang on June 09, 2008, 07:20:31 pm
I kept hearing about how bad the Second Great War Part 2 was, so I was morbidly curious and downloaded it, but it had a CTD error in the middle of the first mission, no dialog box or anything, the program just ended.

If you go any further the "C" will probably just change into an "S".

Joking aside... I haven't played it. Was there some need for this announcement anyway? :nervous: If you seriously want to troubleshoot it, run debug build and see if the generated debug log has anything useful to say (or rather post it and the powers that be will say what it means, if you play nice). Telling system specs and specific version of FS2_Open as well as what mediaVP's and/or other mods were used along with SGWP2 could also help.

If you just wanted to bash it, just let it be. No need to keep on flogging the dead horse and all that jazz... :nervous:

SGWP2 is great because it fudges everything with total confidence. The writing style will keep you addicted.

I'm not kidding...play it. It has the most heroic Fenris in history, as if you needed more convincing.

For more info, the Fenris in question subdues and hijacks a Sath.

I'm using 3.6.9, enable specular, enable glowmaps, enable 32bit textures

Use the link I posted, I'm pretty sure that one works.

I just downloaded the one you posted, and the same thing happened. I seem to have learned more about the problem, though: It occurs as soon as the second wave of Seraphim bombers jumps in

I guess if I arm SDGs on my ship and disable the first wave, then order my wingmen not to kill them, I might be able to pass the mission, but I'd like to know if there is an easier way.

Newer version? You don't need the MediaVPs to play it.

It looks better with MVPs. and you can lulz harder while looking at pretty lights...

Phreak .  .  .  . You're not ex Loa surely :D i think going back i played two missions of this but i can't be sure. . Are there about thirty-odd missions in this campaign iirc?

IMO it's better without MVPs. MVPs give the impression (at least subconsciously) that the person made these shiny things. So no mediavps and turn the model detail to the lowest possible value. :D

Is it just me or is anyone else having trouble finding it to download?

Good point. Blocks shooting blobs and colored lines at each other better represent the atmosphere

I have to use 3.6.9, and it still crashes sporadically when loading missions. You have to restart it, and it generally loads the second time.

And the Sathanas 7 thing is what's meant by the hijacking Fenris.

High Max, I'm sorry but there were always user-made models, even at the times of FS1 (granted, only Dark knew how to make them, but they were still there). And Inferno certainly did not make all the player models. Loads of people were making player models long before Inferno came out. What is wrong with you?

I kind of don't like people who think Inferno is the ultimate FreeSpace mod. It gives Inferno fans a bad name. (So does Mobius, but that's a different story)

Wrong, actually. There was the SF Gorgon by Dark for FS1, which was the first modded fighter ever.

And the SB Vindhyachal by Robin Varley.  And the Shivan Knossos.  And I'm pretty sure there were a few others.

When did he say that Inferno is the ultimate MOD? All he said was that most of the fan made ships came out with Inferno. Which is something else entirely. Maybe he's wrong, whatever. Doesn't mean there's "something wrong with him". Next time a person mentions inferno, you really need to like read their post twice. And then go take a walk, and then come back 10 minutes later, and then reply. Not every mention of Inferno has to turn into a huge epic drama for no real reason.

He said that everything came out with Inferno, which implies that Inferno was an innovatory mod.

He said "since this campaign was made long before the fan-made Shivan models existed, which were released around 2003 with Inferno." which implies that the first fan-made shivan ships came out with Inferno, which is wrong of course (apparently, I don't know). But that's quite understandable in my opinion, how many old models are no longer available to the public? Most of the older mods are still in existence because they were bundle into campaigns that are still available. And for someone who wasn't around or doesn't remember it's perfectly reasonable to assume that they first came out with Inferno or . . . whatever else. Like maybe the Saphah reskin for Derelict was available before Derelict came out but that might be one of the few places you can find it now.

But whatever.
