Chapter 1 status as of 10 June:
- A draft of the last mission for Act II is now complete
- Two further Act II missions need polishing
- Six Act II missions are reasonably complete
- Various table bugs and such cleared up
- One mission remains unstarted for Act III
- Nine Act III missions need playtesting/polishing
-
Will TVWP be released in episodes, or was that only for Act I?
-
Two episodes, Act II and Act III. You've waited long enough for new things. :)
-
Who made that decision?
-
I did.
-
So, I'm assuming releases will be soon-ish?
-
That is a fair assumption. :)
-
I did.
Then you are the coolest person evar (well, among the cool people anyway).
-
Damn cool; I'm getting my new computer tomorrow, so it'll be (basically) just in time to play this.
-
 it comes soon! *hypes*
-
And then... SA! TVW!
-
Shields are for cowards! Release now!

Apparently, so are targeting computers. :P

I liked having no shields in the beginning of FS1. Then capships were actually dangerous and enemy fighters could really kill you.

QFT. And the sensors handicap makes it more fun. (thinking TVWP)
-
no voice acting of course yes? :sigh:
still, looking forward.

Why does it always seem that so many people can't stay alive without voice acting? Sure, it's fun 'n all but hardly necessary. Books don't have voice acting and still people read them, hmm.
-
Look, give a combat pilot too much to read inside the cockpit and they will die in a real dogfight. I know this is only a simulation, but the same paradigm holds true. It's another display that you have to read, and unlike the others, it takes too much time. You can't just scan it. So you get your ass shot off while trying to read what your wingmates and command are telling you. Voice acting is better for this. Even if you only voice act the stuff in mission. The briefings don't matter as much.

F4

If you go to F4-events, you can see the names of wings you're not supposed to see like "...reading this anyway" wing, and you can also find out the names of the carriers, etc XD. I did that a lot with the demo before targeting comps.

There's also immersion to consider. It's more immersing with voice acting. I can deal without it, and do when playing the old Inferno R1, but it's a pain in the ass. Yes, voice acting delays things, but when it's done right, like in Derelict (admittedly Derelict could have used some cleanup on the voice files. Dynamic mics are best for voiceover work), it just works. Alpha 2 is brilliantly cynical. Whoever voice acted Mackie was perfect in the role in Derelict. And a lot of other voices were done well. The non-American accents make it seem more like Humanity had gone to the stars, not just the USA.

Currently I assume that real combat pilots have the privilege of voice acting... I mean, radio. They need it and they get it. We, on the other hand, just play a game, with the unstaoppable feature known as pause. We can freeze the action and read what they were saying. And the Creators of missions can keep the dialogue at an acceptable minimum so that it can be read in the middle of a fight without pauses.
-
You also have to consider the fact that voice acting is a ton of work. Especially if you want it done right.
I don't think I'll be doing voice producing for any campaign after ST:R. Everybody will love it, and it makes the campaign that much more awesome, but it's terribly draining.
-
Which reminds me. I need to get that dynamic mic I was talking about. If only I hadn't been sick this week. Even if I had the mic right now, my voice isn't in the best shape to do any voice acting.
