Title: Error when trying to run FSO
Post by: Sheazer on June 10, 2008, 09:00:08 pm
I downloader the FSO Installer this afternoon and I cannot get FSO or Mods to run correctly. I get this message:

"Unable to get proper pixel format for OpenGL W32!"

Now I have retail FS and FS2 that run fine, and the version of FS2 that came in the installer worked correctly as well. The version of FSO that came with the installer is: fs_open_3_6_9  and  fs_open_3_6_10-20071007T. As far as graphics card I honestly don't know - I think my old one crapped the bed and my father threw something in here although I'm trying to look that up. Thanks in advance.

Well when I switch from OpenGL to Direct3D8 she runs, although might have to play with the resolutions a bit.

don't use Direct3D8. Period. Use OpenGL.

The problem is with your video card. Can you tell us what it is?

Install (newer) drivers for your graphics card.

If you don't know nothing about your graphics card, google for GPU-Z. Get that program and run it. It'll tell you a lot.

Edit: Or use the link in my signature.

If new drivers doesn't solve the problem, run the debug build (the .exe the ends with _d), and then after the crash (or after you quite if it runs) find the \data\fs2_open.log here.  Use

tags, if you please.  :)

Bit of clarification.

In the launcher, at the top, click "Browse" and select a file with either _debug or _d at the end.

Run the game as you would normally, and load a mission.

Quit when you get to the mission, or if you crash, that's fine.

in \FreeSpace2\data, post FS2_open.log to the forum.
