I'm curious if there's anyone around here that may still be into EVE Online and is as excited as I am about the new age of war between the Empires of New Eden? I've only been playing for about a year and don't see myself getting into the conflict directly much, but it's fascinating to feel like I'm taking a part in something so epic, even if it is a tiny one on the sidelines.
-
I've been playing for a few years, and, to be honest, I'm not 100% certain how it's going to turn out. At least they managed to get talked out of the idea of making involvement in the whole thing compulsory.
That said, all the new additions usually take some time to get used to, so I'll wait and see :)
-
i decided real life was more fun.
-
Blasphemy! :eek2:
I didn't know they were considering making it completely compulsory, I'm glad they didn't. I like being a neutral merchant.
-
FW is a disaster. More blob warfare.
-
Nobody considers lowsec dangerous because of belt rats any more anyway, only other players, and if this war thing is going to drag PvPers everywhere, then things are going to get messy pretty quickly.
-
Someone said it was tough to start now, you would be so far behind. Is that still the case?
-
What is EVE like? Does it have graphics? is it worthless grinding, or is it actually playing? Do you command a ship, or a fleet?
-
It's not difficult to start, but the learning curve is a steep one. It doesn't have to be 'quite' as grind-tastic as some MMOs unless you are into mining etc, but any MMO is going to be pretty heavy on the grind side.
Graphically, the game is gorgeous, you can only control one ship at a time, but can form corporations where you make fleets out of members ships. Fleet battles used to be fun, but the sheer volume of players on Eve tends to make them more of a lag-fest than a blast-fest these days, but that's only really applicable for the large battles, inter-corp battles are usually ok.
It's a complex game, and it keeps getting more complex, that's both one of its charms, and one of its problems.
The thing about MMO's is that they can also, if you are not careful, finally be used as a justification for feature creep.
-
Is Sector Game like a corporation, then? I might get the game sometime.
-
It was, it's kind of mothballed now, since everyone left, but it still exists in potentia, should we ever get enough players in the same area again :)
-
What about Hunter? Were you in the corp?
-
I was in the corp from its formation, but left when things started to get a bit silly, since we were a mixture of PvP and Industrial players, and things didn't really gel together, since the last thing industrials like is someone declaring War on their corp, it's annoying.
Hunter founded the corp, but was forced to move out to lowsec for a number of reasons
-
What a bummer.
-
Funny, I know a person named Hunter. He's the leader of the alliance that I'm in. We do a bunch of stuff in 0.0 sec.
Was his character name HunterGlobalGateways or something to that extent?
-
No.
Hunt Smacker

Alright, I'm still glad to know that there are others on HLP who play EVE :D
-
Are there any others who are semi-newbies like me, having signed up only in the last year or so?
-
Aw man, MMORPGs sucks, I have yet to see one which isn't.
-
Avoiding Stones's comment.
I suppose you could call me a semi-newb since I created my first char about a year ago. I've had a lot of experience, though, and have moved out to 0.0 sec. Still wish I could get some more pvp experience, though.

Somewhat like your mother?
Okay, so it was a low blow, but we already have a nattering nabob of negativity. His name's BlackDove. Now hush.
-
Don't be afraid though to show me EVE doesen't, I'm liberal and open-minded. Well, mostly, I have no understanding for our SVP NSDAP-like guys over here in Switzerland...
Ah, you get the point.
-
To be completely honest, the game has a very steep learning curve. And that's a good thing as those players who get past that become very dedicated to the game. Also, corporations are generally very enriching to the game. Going solo isn't actually a very good option as you don't really have any support but it is doable.

EVE is great. That is to say, I played the game, found it heinously boring after a few weeks and unsubscribed, but I love its continued existence purely because of the awesome trailers. I mean, damn.
