Title: No weapons available for Freespace 2 missions
Post by: djkiernan on June 14, 2008, 07:24:27 pm
I'm having a weird problem, just downloaded Free Space Open and installed it... I played the two original campaigns "the great war" and "silent threat" and now when I attempted to start the Free Space 2 campaign there are no weapons available to select, and also can“t change my ship or the ships in my squadron.
The mission name is Surrender Belisarius and when it starts loading I get 3 error messages:

Does anyone have an idea of what can be done to solve this?

Thanks!!!

Ok, here a couple things you should try...
First of all, select the No mod button on the launcher, this is important.

If that doesn't fix it, you most likely also have a corrupted pilot file, make a new one and play with that one.

Most likely you have forgotten to switch the mod. Playing the FS1 campaign and Silent Threat requires the FSPort as a mod, yes. But the FS2 campaign? No. If you've done a full installation with Turey's Installer, use the Launcher to select the \mediavps\ folder as a mod. If you don't have one, for some reason, just select No MOD.

And it is usually good to have a separate pilot for each campaign/mod.

Hey guys, thanks for the help and the welcome.
I tried to set the \mediavps\ folder as mod but there was no file to select in there so I went with the NO MOD option and now it's working smooth.

Thanks again!!!

glad to see you got it worked out, and about the mediavps as mod folder, you dont really have to pick a file, just the folder and should work

use the Launcher to select the \mediavps\ folder as a mod.
You might want to read some reference material, such as Karajorma's FreeSpace FAQ. Many things are explained there. And it does actually work that way: you select a subfolder to be used as a mod folder instead of single files. So again, try to select the \mediavps\ folder as a mod, so that you could play prettier FS2.
