I've been going there through the community portal on FSwiki.
Its got a decent collection of models :P
-
And some nice pictures too, it was my source for this (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,53761.0.html) one.
-
That page was updated last year... :blah:
-
Erm, everyone I would assume. F2S is the oldest active FS2 site on the net.
-
They have got some descent models there. But it's not regulary updated, thats all.
-
That could be because the only sign that the site isn't dead is the fact that several Gigs of downloads take place every month. You wouldn't guess anything from the activity in our Forums.
It doesn't hurt to stop by and say thanks to Hunter now and again.
Edit: Basically, if anything is killing Twisted Infinities, it is the fact it was supposed to be a community project, and Sectorgame now has practically no community.

What? How come?

It's my fault. I got started on SectorGame, then moved here. Haven't been to F2S in years.

That gives me a thought...did almost everyone from F2S move here?
-
Wow, superb! Another campaign I didn't play :)
(Shadows of kraken)

 Not your fault, the entire team more or less vanished overnight, and we were left with three people working on a massive project, all of whom were studying at University. There were no people to top up the numbers and, just to add to that, HTL appeared, which meant that all the original models looked really crap next to the newer ones.
In the end, to be blunt, we've been left with far more than we can deal with, and just feel too overwhelmed by the prospect to even start.
-
I volunteer.
-
I remember flooding to SG everytime HLP went down.
-
I might start a recruitment drive on Sectorgame and here, to see if we can inject some new life into the project. I'll see what the other guys opinions are about it, and take it from there :)
-
I visit there now and then, but there are never any topics I feel a need to respond to. So, go start a religion vs science discussion or something :p
-
Why not just mirror everything there over to HLP?
-
I got to SectorGame regularly, but I'm hardly welcome. eh?

you are the snail god. the enmity they have against you was predestined long ago...
-

I don't recall you being told you were unwelcome :p
I certainly don't have a problem with you being there, and neither does Hunter, and since we are the ones who have the Ban button, I wouldn't worry about what anyone else thinks ;)
-
Yes, so who has been banned from SectorGame recently? Just bots?
-
No-one.
The registration process seems to cut out most of the bots, and no-ones done anything ban-worthy for quite a long time. The last person we banned was posting Porn in the chatbox.
-
I remember that. I was was upset 'cause I was a day to late to see it.
-
Trust me, you were lucky, it wasn't nice porn...
-

Porn is never nice... :wtf:

Must......resist....
-
Must resist... GoogleImage the word nice...
-
Tricia Helfer posing topless is softcore porn, and I certainly wouldn't describe it with anything but positive words ;)
-
I'd rather look at hentai. :nervous:
Back to the topic...for some reason, I don't feel welcome at SectorGame. Don't ask me why, but everytime I go there, I feel like I'm in a deserted city.
-
That is because most of the members are not active at all so that is why there are usually 3-4 members on at once.
-
At least some people here still post over there. I see Snail and Hunter online now.

What the hell is F2S? :wtf:

How abnormal is it that I've only just now heard about it?

I also don't feel comfortable over there. I shall remain mute on the hentai part :wtf:

We should; we're going off-topic. :nervous:

<quote>who's seen this? Sectorgame</quote>
. . . . . . yes. Yes i have. About four computers ago. Cheers for the nostalgia.

I wholeheartedly agree that F2S is very out-dated but it's easy to take the "it sucks" card out of your pocket instead of helping out. I've yet to have a single offer to help out around there in the last year, I can't do everything myself. I even implemented fully automated scripts last year so that people can submit all the latest community creations of their own free will, but no one is willing to do that and I don't have time to prowl through these huge forums every week looking for the latest content, asking for approval for it be uploaded to F2S, etc. Also I've tried to be as nice as possible to everyone (who didn't stir trouble) who ever came to Sectorgame, and if for some reason you feel you are left out or in a "deserted city" then by all means take it upon yourself to suggest ways to improve the conditions there instead of turning your back. I've kept F2S operational for 8 years now and I've always hoped that new life could be poured into it, but it's just too much work for a pretty much one-man show.
-
hunt smacker? are you hunter?
-
hunt smacker? are you hunter?
Yeah, he's the SG hunter.
-
I'm Admin on there as well, but I really don't have the time or skills to help out at the moment, though I'm hoping to obtain them, but it's an endless loop, if people don't show up, there's no point to updating, yet people don't show up because it hasn't been updated.
I've never known Sectorgame to be unwelcoming or unfriendly to anyone in my several years on there.
-
I like it better than HLP, the members are mostly friendly (except for Hippo, he makes me cry every time he posts). I only wish it was a bit more active. But less active than HLP.
-
What do you need to help with there? If it's not too much/difficult, maybe I could help.
-
I'd suggest PMing Hunter and seeing if you can help, though I'd suggest making yourself known at SG first :)
-
What we really need right now is new content, updating the downloads and promoting usage of the system itself. All people need to do is add their new campaigns, missions, mods etc. Also perhaps enhancing the gallery system so that it can expanded into a kind of "Freespace Photobucket". The idea behind that would be so that members can utilize Sectorgame as a port of call for storing all Freespace related concept art, renders, screenshots and banners/other images. The F2S page has a gallery, and also the forums have an attachment system that lets users create their own personalized galleries which can be linked to within site or externally. As for the download database, we have lots of old stuff, and some recent content from last year - but all of that was either ported over from the previous version of Freespace 2 Sector or located myself. Also a lot of out-dated stuff was removed.
Essentially the first step to putting some life into the site is updating it. While I've had plenty of ideas for adding new features and actual content to F2S (like resurrecting the ship database and modernizing it), but I see little reason for that these days as most of that content is readily available from many sources. That leaves F2S as a "mod/gallery" site and also hosting provider for campaigns and projects alike.
-
Maybe if I could get my mod(-s) hosted there, it would be beneficial for both. You get more publicity, and me- what all hosted mods get.
-
Sure, anything is welcome except for huge disc sized projects. :D
-
how can we upload stuff on your site ?
-
Go to any of the download page and on top of it there's an UPLOAD button. But it's kinda complicated, as you got to send larger files to an e-mail :P
-
I will see about implementing a different upload page for large files.. Our host doesn't like it very much. :doubt:
-
What does it have to do with a host? It's just stuff being transfered from a PC to the server.
-
Because it uses processing power to upload files via scripts, especially in PHP.
