Just asking. Will it improve the graphics or not if I use mediavps?
Will it crash the game since the mediavps do indeed have models of regular FS2 ships?

No.

Possibly not but it won't do any good either.
-
I'll be hugely surprised if it doesn't crash the game.
-
Ah. The tables. Almost forgot.
-
What about just the MV_core.vp and the mv_effects/advanced effects?

No.

The MediaVPs are STRICTLY for FS2 and it's main campaign. The Babylon Project is a Stand-Alone. It requires nothing more than its own files. It won't even work with the others, though I personally use it as a mod from my main launcher so I can keep all my Source Code Project stuff together.
-
I like to tinker too, so my arrangement makes it easier to test new builds of the exes from the source that I check out from the subversion repository.
-
Weirdo...
Be careful.

Ian, no worries. There's no such thing as a normal person anyway. I'm weird. He's weird. You're weird. Everybody's weird, because the word normal just cannot apply when dealing with human beings. There are AVERAGES, but no such thing as normal.

I'm glad you didn't take offence. I on the other hand wasn't too impressed. I don't expect the people who visit this forum to all behave like best buddies but I do expect a certain level of civility. Lobo's comment just fell the wrong side of the line and he can consider that his first warning. And before he complains he would do well to remember that as moderators go I am far from moderate.

So... do you also have FreeSpace2 retail files in a mod folder instead of root folder?
Or does that even work?
-
I left the retail VPs in the root folder, like I'm supposed to. Because if you don't, when using the mediaVPs to play the main FS2 campaign, you end up with things missing, like voices, music, command briefings, cursors...
-
Yes, it's that simple. I need to make a mod.ini with a graphic though.
-
That won't work for BtRL however. It crashes if you try to run it as a mod.

There's no reason I can think of why that wouldn't work. Simply make sure all the FS2 mod.ini files reference the folder you put the VP files in and it should work.
Every once in a while I consider doing the same thing myself since it would make debugging much easier for me (Since I have to debug for TBP, BtRL and FS2 quite frequently and will probably end up having to help with WCS and SoL often enough to make it worth it). Then I remember that there are a few issues that make it impractical (having to use the same command line, having to have several versions of the launcher, all pointing at the same launcher.ini) and I realise it's simply a different kind of hassle rather than less. :)

One thing I do have to do is remember to toggle the tbp features switch in my launcher though. Almost forgot that.
