Hey, I just thought of an idea: Respect Points and 'trophy' like images.
It is used to show how 'helpful' a user is. For example, he has been helping newbies a lot, or doing something very helpful towards the community. They would get a point or get a special page on their user page, like a trophy box.
I personally have no experience with php or any forum construction knowledge. Perhaps this is impossible or too time consuming.
This is just an idea, not a request. So don't shout at me....please :P

Correct me if I'm incorrect, but isn't that what custom titles are for?
-
Customs titles atm, are both for that and for poking fun at people. I think what he means is something like karma, on other forums.

Karma is a good word....but we don't have a lot of Japanese FSers walking around..

You are half correct. But Titles are often representing someone's characterstic or background.

... We don't really need Japanese FSers to use the Karma thing. Its just a word, you can prolly change it to what ever floats your boat.

Like BW's awesome title.

IIRC this has been discussed before and AFAIK it wasn't accepted. Feel free to look back though; I can't remember any of the details.

Is there really a problem of getting bad advice from people here?

No. Usually we give excellent advice, and then descend into spam.

What should I search? I am curious how it ended up.

SMF does have a built-in karma-system, it's just not enabled and for a good reason. It is far too easily abused beyond oblivion.
-
I thought the Karma thing can only b awarded my mod and admins?
-
And then the mods and admins have to deal with the fallout.
PM : "Why was I modded down! Whah Whah Whah."
PM : "Why wasn't I modded up! You modded x up for something similar. Whah Whah Whah."
If you lot could act like a bunch of adults and not treat karma like an extension of your penises it might be worth turning on but I've not seen the slightest indication that HLP (or most other boards I know) is mature enough to treat karma in an adult enough fashion to make it remotely worth considering.
-
:nervous: I can imagine that being the problem with most game forums...
-
Yeah....les enfants are surely a problem >.<
-
True... Very very true.

A thumb up/thumb down system is enough. Afterall it's used(and ignored) in YouTube.
I think we can avoid that if we moderate its use. If one user is asking for help and another user replies no one but the creator of the thread should use that system. The system should give positive/negative feedback to posts, not to users.

Why bother? Seriously, why? We don't have any pathological liars around here.

:nervous: Umm... yeah, that's right. We don't.

I never lie. :nervous:
