Yeah, I noticed this a couple of weeks ago. I installed this FRICKING SCHWEET widescreen monitor onto my system and kicked off the day with a little FS2...and it ran like **** for the first time in 9 years. I did some testing around on other, normal screen computers, and it seems that widescreen and/or 1440x900 isn't supported by FS2 or FS2 Open. Anyone got a couple of cents on this?

I would suggest getting a newer build or running in a window.

I'm running 1440x900 fine. Be sure to change your resolution in the launcher. If that doesn't work, you can always modify your fs2_open.ini file (not sure where it is) using notepad.

Though it is beneficial to get a widescreen supporting build in order to avoid the funky wandering suns and such.

What version of FS2_Open are you using? You need a newer build for widescreen to work properly with no graphical flaws.
If it's actually running slower, it may be that your video card doesn't work well with widescreen resolutions - what video card are you using?
If nothing else, you can either run it in a window with -window, or your video card may have the ability to run it in a 'standard' (ie 4:3) resolution with black bars on either side. Neither side is an ideal solution, but it might let you play.
However, I've been using FS2 on a 1680x1050 widescreen monitor, so I'm pretty sure it works... :p
