Title: Two Problems
Post by: Jake2447 on June 18, 2008, 12:34:38 pm
Hey, I have two problems that i don't know how to fix.
One thing, text-to-speech is not working for any of the in-game text
in the launcher i have speech enabled in all catagories

also, not sure if this is the right place to post, but in the second mission with the 134th, where you test the tag missiles, i start with no weapons
after calling in support, i get primaries, but no TAGs (sortof difficult to complete this mission without them)

running a 3.6.10 build
could that be the problem?

thanks in advance for any help

1. Do you have any Microsoft voices installed?
2. Make a new pilot.

yes
and it doesn't work

using the 3.6.9 build seemed to allow me to use text-to-speech
still before i switch to the 3.6.9, will that corrupt the data from a pilot used in 3.6.10?

Nope.

okay, thanks
just wanted to know, because the reason im replaying (other than that its fun) is that my previous pilot somehow got corrupted

Damn those corrupted bastards. Always taking bribes and only looking out for themselves.

The reason for no voice is pretty simple. The only SVN builds you'll find with voice synth and voice recognition in are mine. AFAIK none of the other coders bother to turn those features on except for official builds (it is a minor hassle to turn them on).

I happen to find voice synthesis useful when designing missions so as a result I make sure I always build it in. :)

Do you have a mod selected? Any .TBLs or .TBMs in your \data\tables folder? In \mediavps\data\tables?

no
everything is normal
enabling/disabling mediavps didnt help
i think ill just cheat through it
if only there was an easy way to die quickly

didnt know that
thanks

EDIT:
After I skipped that mission, I play through pegasus test mission, and then am assigned to the 64th
its a bomber squadron, and cyclopses have been allowed for me, yet there are no cyclops in the loadout screen
this is frustrating when trying to kill capships
any idea what is wrong?
should i try a reinstall?

Ummmm...75% of the time it is corrupt pilot file. If not, click the rest button inside the load out screen.

Almost certainly a corrupt pilot. Restart the campaign from in the campaign room and then quit the game, extract this file (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/karajorma/FAQ/Downloads/CampaignRestarts/SM2-04-FromTheKing'sGambit.zip) to your Data\Missions folder and then play again. When you finish the entire campaign go to Freespace2\Data\missions and delete freespace2.fc2

Why not just make another pilot file? :wtf:

When you've already ended up in the Barracudas Raptors? And play through all the previous missions again?

Edited because the dumdum didn't remember the squadron designations correctly.

Isn't that what you'll get from having to restart the campaign?

I'd really like it if we could talk about the same subject...

1. Jake2447 was playing the FS2 campaign.
2. Jake2447 faced issues, which we determined to be caused by a corrupt pilot file.
3. Jake2447 had managed to play up to the Barracudas Raptors. Restarting the whole **** at that point can be somewhat frustrating.
4. karajorma cooked up a modified campaign file, where the campaign starts from roughly the point where Jake2447 had managed to play, thus nullifying the need to play it all again.
5. You started rambling on about how just creating a new pilot file would have done the trick and now refuse to accept that karajorma's method causes less stress.

**** this ****.

Edited because this dimwit didn't remember the squadron designations correctly.

I didn't know that the file did this. i thought it was just a replacement for the mission so it's fixed the next time you get there in another playthrough.

Ah. In that case. Yeah, that's kara's style. Quite friendly towards people. And that way the people with issues are more likely to continue playing FreeSpace, compared to the method of just creating the new pilot and starting all over. Or using the old Ctrl-Shift-S.

Cause then he'd have to replay the entire campaign from the start.

Is it possibly a Vista issue?
I have played through the campaign on my XP laptop with no problems (other than it being SLOW).
However, I have never finished the campaign on Vista because of stuff like this.

By the way, is it really a corrupt pilot if the main campaign is the only one I've used the pilot for?

It is possibly, but it seems like a problem with the game itself, so that's weird.

Wait, reading your posts, did you copy your install from your laptop to your Vista PC? If so, I assume you were using MS Sam or something. Maybe that doesn't exist on Vista, so try to select a different voice.

No clean install.

And you're right about MS Sam, but there are other voices usable instead.

Make sure that you've checked the options to use voice, and also, some campaigns like INFA use a beep in place of a voice file, it cancels out the CG voice, and there is no voice acting.

Meh, I prefer to voice der techroom inside my head anyway.. sounds less, I don't know, corny.

I like it strictly in-mission for that reason. I only use it for when I need to get an order, and I can usually read stuff anyway.
