Once more for the money?
-
The Near End was 5 months or more before the Shivans Arrived. So when the Terrans Started to move into Vasuda the PVN Started to crumble. When the Shivans Came it Ended the War.
I found this single statement utterly hillarious. No idea why.
On another note, we don't really have much canon intel on the 14 Year War.
-
Thanks for the heads up. Consider it dealt with :)
-
Now this guy is at it (http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Special:Contributions/Eolis).
-
I've been monitoring him. He's actually making a campaign, though, and hasn't changed any canon pages nor added any links to pages he has made. So what he's doing is fine so far - Documenting a campaign you're making is a perfectly reasonable use of the Wiki.
-
Ah, 9rd Fleet is a campaign...
-
Yeah, he may need some help with grammar and the like as he's French and has already admitted that his english is terrible, but I can live with that if we get another campaign to play.
-
He could always enlist help from the bilingual members on the forum. We do have a number of French users, and I'm sure most of them speak English well.

No, no. Getting native speakers' help should be the best. There are sentence structures that are grammatically correct, but sound weird to a native speaker.
On-topic: At least he is able to communicate with us. ITA Master did not do that.
-
I can probably translate a bit of French if it's easy enough. I did a lot of French a few years ago.
One problem I can see though is that his articles aren't in paragraph form, and are laid out in point form, which might be a bit hard to make into a coherent article without his direction.
-
And the Master returns... (http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Jupitur%27s_Story)
-
I'm aware of it. This time though, he's actually doing as I told him to do by making a campaign page and linking to it from the proper location, so I see no reason to intervene yet. Spelling and grammar are bloody lousy as before of course, but I'm willing to see where this goes.
-
Well, at least he didn't flood the Wiki with his noncanon stuff. That's one step ahead. Still, the fact that he added the"PLEASE DON'T EDIT THIS PAGE" cannot be permanent.
[EDIT] Now he has removed his campaign from the Campaign List (FS2) article, but kept its article. He's confused about what he can do and what he shouldn't.
-
I don't get why he won't communicate.
EDIT
Laser screwdriver. Who'd have sonic? (http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Desert_Storm)
He's created another campaign, "Desert Storm". He's also added Desert Storm into the place where Jupiter's Story used to be (Pre-Great War era)
-
Perhaps it's not a new campaign, but Jupiter's Story renamed?
-
No, Jupiter's Story was something to do with the Jovian colonies of Sol, Desert Storm is apparently Vasudan-related. I think he's brainstorming but being a bit too enthusiastic and posting up every idea that goes into his head. As long as it's controllable for now I think we can let it slide.
-
Well, yes. But his articles need some polishing, most notably for capital letters.
[EDIT] I made some changes. I hope I didn't discourage him.
-
Well he's removed Desert Storm too, now. That means he's added Jupiter's Story, removed it, replaced it with Desert Storm and removed it again. What's he doing?
-
He doesn't like his pages edited. Can't think of anything else.
-
Well, if he bothered to read the guidelines...
"Please note that all contributions to Freespace Wiki may be edited, altered, or removed by other contributors. If you don't want your writing to be edited mercilessly, then don't submit it here."
-
Makes sense to not want a page edited if it's a WIP. Which is why I generally write new pages in notepad, but if you're not so used to the wiki markup you'd probably like to have the preview function handy to help you out
-
I think the main thing we need here is to get in contact with ITA Master and try to communicate.
-
Which is, as we have sen so far, is practically impossible.
-
I know how we can contact him.
Write "VISIT HERE AND POST" on his new campaign page, Tegmen Stair (http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Tegmen%27s_Stair). That will certainly get his attention.
-
With his spelling and grammar, this will clearly be an epic campaign.
-
Y'know, he's just like Judge Floro, only without the vague making of sense.
-

Second Great War, part WIN!
-
But then you are Transfered to 2 different Destroyers.
So you get posted to 2 destroyers at the same time ?

*slice slice*
-
I'm expecting to see yet another Knossos in that campaign.
-
Don't forget Sathani ... I mean Sathanes!
-
Santanas (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/93/Carlos_Santana_2.jpg).
-
Santanas (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/93/Carlos_Santana_2.jpg).
I'd expect to see that in a JAD 4....
-
Sontarans! (http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/Sontaran)
-

He can get someone to check his grammar, so I don't expect that to be a problem. I only wonder how he will get all those campaigns done. Unless he's got a bunch of modders to back him up, he'll struggle with the "overambitious project + tiny staff = dead project" scenario.
-
tiny being the word to focus on. Unless I miss my guess he's a one man show.
-
No, he's an Afghan guy and he's working with woutersmits on FS3.
-
Looks like he's releasing a demo soon. (http://hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Tegmen%27s_Stair)
-
Hrm, then we'll see if we get another SGWP2 :P
-
Oi, you are really supporting him and helping that. What if the campaign's actually good, huh?
I mean, a few years back, my english was as perfect as his...
If you want to clear out the grammar/editing thing, just do what someone suggested- put a link on the bottom of page to come here and post about it.
-
Alright, I suppose we should give him a chance. I'm gonna go clean up his article, tidy it up some what.
-
And add a link on the bottom of it to go here and post. Otherwise this will never end.
-

Something tells me that the article will once again vanish if it has been edited without permission.

unknown error. they most make an update.
-
Done. I was gonna restructure the article, but then I noticed the warning section, so I just corrected spelling and removed excessive capitals.
-
He's edited his page. He's added that he's having mission problems, and that his campaign is delayed.
But the best part is he's asked us to contact him pretty rich, huh? Thing is, we've been trying to contact him for quite a while now!
I've also added "Not until you Contact us first. If you get into contact we can probably help you with your mission problems." to his article, because he seems to be blind to the other instance.
-
Yea. Maybe I should bold the "Please get in contact with us ITA Master part"
-
I was thinking we nuke his article and write:
"Your article has been removed. Respond to us (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,54795.0.html) and it will be restored. This is your final warning. Obey."
-
A bit heavy handed, imo. If he removes his article and starts another new one or starts editing canon stuff again ...
-
Then he'll be
exterminated banned.
-
... How is it he doesn't know about these forums anyway. There's a link in the FS community portal.
-
Maybe it's one of us. Moreso- someone posting here. *suspicious* :nervous:
Or not.
Probably just doesn't want to bother himself to register here.
-

Conform or be butt-****ed?

It really seems like the forums are on his ignore list. There's a ****ing link with a recommendation to contact us and what does he do? He asks us to contact him. Ignore or language barrier. Those are the explanations that come to my mind.
-
He has enough knowledge of the language to know what we mean. He's intentionally ignoring us, for which reason he is to be considered an enemy of the community.
-
Touché.
-

I wouldn't deal in such extremes as to call him an enemy. Still, if all efforts to establish communication with him fails, there is nothing else we can do but to ban him. Not for being an "enemy," but for disobeying Wiki rules.
[EDIT]So now there are two links that direct him here. I will get the "Not only you contact us first" bit into a new paragraph; it attracts more attention that way. Anyone can slip over a single added sentence, but not a new paragraph. Perhaps it will help a little. If not, well, such is life.
-
I wasn't being serious. I was going to say enemy of the Daleks, but you know.
-
Whoa. I just got a PM from him. :)
I replied back and told him to post a thread in this forum. Hopefully he'll have a chance to learn what the rules of the wiki are. I believe he was treating the wiki as his own personal sandbox: editing or creating pages whenever he thought of a new idea.
I suggest going easy on him. He's either the second coming of StarGunner, or someone of a young age for whom English is a very distant second language. :)
-
I think we just have to be ... extra ordinarily patient with him. Who knows. He might get real good. With practise. And learning the language.
=edit=
 Okay, I just found about the BOOM! SHIVAN SUPER LASERS SHOOT!
-
Should we remove the snobbish contact us notes?
-
I say we should. It's out of date now.
