First, I wanted to say Hi to everyone.
Second, I have to say you guys are doing a great job in bringing new breath to old game.
I used Tureys online installer, everything went fine. I finished couple of campaigns (Cardinal Spear, FsPort, Awakenings, Destiny of Peace), it looks really great, new models, new graphic effects etc. Even good old FS2 campaign is more exciting.
After that I wanted to play "Sync", so I chose it as my mod and started the game. Unfortunately sync was using vanilla FreeSpace 2 engine, so I've added this
[multimod]
secondarylist = mediavps;
to the mod.ini file. The game started to using MediaVP library, I had all the new stuff (new models, effects etc.) except for the backgrounds (here's the image (http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/7807/screenshotwu0.jpg)) it looks really bad, just the black void and few stars. Do you have any ideas what might be causing that ?
And second, I was wondering. How come I'm missing for example bump mapping effect on my models, hercs for example looks really great (you can see pilot etc.), but on the screenshoots I saw bump mupping, however it's not present in my game (image (http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/543/screenshot2ed1.jpg)). Any idea how turn this thing on ?
I have recent build and mediaVP pack (FS2Open Version: 3.6.9; MediaVP Version: 3.6.8 Zeta; Launcher Version: 5.5d). I turned all the graphic improvements in the launcher to on (I was guided by the topic here one the board).
My PC specs are:
Barton 2500XP+
1GB DDR
Radeon 9800

Get Lightspeed's Nebulae (http://www.freespacemods.net/download.php?view.234). Extract the contents to your \mediavps\ folder.

It works, but only partially :(
Now all the systems (missions) looks the same. There's blue Nebula everywhere...
However it's definetely much better than before :)

I might be wrong but I do seem to recall that the first few missions (apart from the first firstn the one inside a nebula) take place in the same system.

You're correct, missions after them have diffrent backgrounds. Thanks for the help.
There's one more thing I need to ask. What about that bump mapping I mentioned in the first post. Any idea how do I turn it on ?
-
Hmm. Does bump mapping equal normal mapping? Even remotely? If so, you'll need to acquire the 3.6.10 Beta MediaVPs (the release thread is on the FreeSpace Upgrade Project board), as well as a 3.6.10 build that supports normal maps (basically one of taylor's XT builds from the Recent Builds child board under the FreeSpace Source Code Project board). And a shader. Check out the How to get the most graphics-wise out of FSO link in my signature.

Bump mapping is the predecessor of normal mapping. FS2 never supported it, we went straight to normal mapping. :)

Slight off topicness. How do i make mediavps work in other mods?
-
Just create file "mod.ini" in the directory where the mod you want to use is, or, if the file already exists, edit it.
Add line
[multimod]
secondarylist = mediavps;
-
Aye. Or use the custom flags field in the Launcher. Add the following there:
-mod mediavps

Then it'll launch all mods with the mediavps?
-
Yes.

Unzip the attached file, add whatever info you want in Notepad (make sure that the semicolon stays at the end of the line) and put it in your mod folder.
