Title: Question about the uberness of this mod
Post by: Titan on July 02, 2008, 12:37:21 pm
Ummm... i was thinking, the ships you've shown us look like they'll ruin people that don't have really good computers.

Can you, maybe, make a seperate release (when it comes out) that, maybe, make it so the LODs are shifted back? IE, the second lod becomes the first, etc.

Good idea...

Maybe it can be done with a shp-tbm changing the LODs?

I think that would screw up "disable the turret" missions unless the submodels are on ALL of the LODs, which I doubt they are.

Well, my comp is obsolete in many ways, yet dogfights work flawlessly in terms of frame/second. I don't think capships will cause more trouble, because our fighters are also hi-poly, and while there could be 12-24 fighters in combat, it is rare for two or more capships to be in combat.

Also, people keep forgetting that FreeSpace's detail settings still work.

high poly counts don't seem to cause a big performance hit in freespace2. if the game runs too slow turn off the normal maps and lower the detail settings.

Yeah, and it's likely that for some models like the ISD we'll be releasing a sort of Advanced MVP pack with much higher res maps.

We're also forgetting that Titan isn't allowed to use SCP, and as such isn't allowed to use this mod.  Also, his dad would flip at all that data he'd have to download from us untrustworthy internet folks.

Hmm. True. Titan would be well advised to forget about the Star Wars Conversion at least up to the point when he finally can move to his own apartment. Naturally hoping that the landlord doesn't kick him out for downloading games from the Interwebs.

Srsly, this conversion sounds so exciting. But I'm still going to continue sitting quietly and waiting for the release date.

That's a good start

Does your dad find Star Wars religiously offensive?  If not you might actually be able to play this mod someday =P

Titan: "Don't thank God Dad, thank the midichlorians!"

But did I understand correctly on that earlier occasion that you are currently prohibited from downloading anything? That would effectively prevent you from playing this conversion. Ever.

Titan's Dad: "Where have you been?! Thank God you're okay!"
Titan: "Don't thank God Dad, thank the midichlorians!"
"Live long and prosper."

Oh wait...

Titan: But Dad freespace has like really cool graphics and stuff!
Titan's Dad: No son! you must stay away from the Warez Gods! it is blasphemy! *he then proceeds to take out an amulet in the shape of a window and starts humming the jingle you here when you start windows.*

I'm so tempted to release a special Titan edition with a custom made virus, it's not even funny.  It would have to hijack any available webcam though just to catch the look on Titan's parents' faces when they find out that something for Freespace 2 did in fact have a virus.

My mom used the family computer once. Looked at her email. Opened an attachment. Nobody ever uses that computer anymore.

I just defeatted antivirus XP 2008 on my machine...

...though not without a casuality: my screen saver is not this fake-crash, and the tab to change it is gone.
