Title: FS2 Open Fails to run
Post by: KewlToyZ on July 05, 2008, 01:05:48 pm
Well I tried the 3 cd install and ran it, never would work.
Renamed that directory and tried the online installer.
Tried loading up the game and it will only go to Multiplayer Pilots at startup I get this:

Error: Couldn't load pilot file, bailing
File:C:\projects\freespace2\code\MenuUI\PlayerMenu.cpp
Line: 698

Call stack:
------------------------------------------------------------------
    kernel32.dll 76ca4911()
    ntdll.dll 77d6e4b6()
    ntdll.dll 77d6e489()
------------------------------------------------------------------

The file keeps insisting I have insufficent disk space...
Its a 500 GB drive with about 300 GB of free space (no pun intended) :D
Can I use visual studio to checkout the project code?
If so where can I download it?

1. Where have you installed? My Documents and the Desktop are poor choices.
2. Have you only tried the 3.6.9 build? A while back someone had similar issues but eventually he managed to create a pilot using a 3.6.10 build.

This was an old retail bug.  You need to type in a pilot name if one doesn't exist before hitting anything including the single/multi tabs or select or it crashes.  Like Lobo said try a 3.6.10 build it's been fixed.

I switched out for the v10 exe the problem went away with Turrey's installer.
Thanks for the feedback gents.

Except now, my desktop brightness and contrast seem to be toggling out of whack every other time I open and run the game. One time I start and exit normally it is sort of neon colored, the next time I do it, it is back to normal.

There's a don't set gamma option you can use in the troubleshooting section of the launcher's feature tab.

Yep caught on once I felt confident it was a video driver issue. Thanks :D
