Title: Playing Freespace on 3 Screens
Post by: Impact on July 06, 2008, 04:30:04 am
I have a matrox triplehead2go, which makes it possible to play on 3 screens with only 1 dvi output. I tried it and i noticed that all small ships like fighters and bombers disappear after half of one side screen. Also the targeting seems to be bugged, its kinda like inverted.

lets say o is the enemy ship and x is the targeting reticle, it looks like this:
-------------------------

o                    x

-------------------------

-------------------------

                      x

     o

-------------------------

and the hud is completely stretched.

i will post some screens soon.

Don't know much about multiple monitors and such, but the HUD thing is mostly related to the fact that it's meant for 4:3 aspect ratios. Wider resolutions result in stretching. You just have to live with it.

As for the targeting reticle issues, you'd need a build that supports widescreen resolutions. It won't fix the HUD or any interface art, as I already explained, but it will negate the wandering suns and the targeting reticle issues, which actually affect gameplay. Personally, I prefer Xt0314 (http://koti.mbnet.fi/reiler/FunkyFreeSpaceStuff/Xt0314-win32.rar), even though some people complain that using "unofficial" builds hinders the progress of the Source Code Project. Or something.

How does it work now?

i'd love to play freespace2 on triplle screen (i use to test with softh but as it work only in direct x, the result was quite pathetics... )

I still wonder if i'll buy a matrox solution, but if the result with freespace2 is not good, it won't worth it for me (i can t use softh anymore as my gpu use to heat too much with it )
