Title: how to lunch fs2 in Ubuntu?
Post by: Joif on July 06, 2008, 11:36:35 am
Hi all! I'm new of fs2 and I have troubles launching the game.
I downloaded it from here http://www.fsoinstaller.com/
ok now I have a directory of about 3,5 GB... and now? there are a lot of .exe files! What I have to do to lunch this game in Ubuntu? Following this link http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Fs2_open_on_Linux I have made a startup script but when I lunch it nothing happens...  :(
And also if I lunch fs2_open from a terminal in the directory where I have downloaded fs2 I receive those errors with those strange characters:

:~/FreeSpaceOpen$ sh ./fs2_open
./fs2_open.bin: 1: ELF: not found
./fs2_open.bin: 1: 1: not found
./fs2_open.bin: 1: 8: not found
./fs2_open.bin: 1: 88P: not found
./fs2_open.bin: 1: @@: not found
./fs2_open.bin: 1: cannot open : No such file
./fs2_open.bin: 1: }~jnGu¹ñØ─X␤¦Š˜,: ┼⎺├ °⎺┤┼␍
./°⎽2_⎺⎻␊┼.␉␋┼: 1: É: ┼⎺├ °⎺┤┼␍
./°⎽2_⎺⎻␊┼.␉␋┼: 2: S≤┼├▒│ ␊⎼⎼⎺⎼: ")" ┤┼␊│⎻␊␌├␊␍
°⎼▒┼␌␊⎽␌⎺@°⎼▒┼␌␊⎽␌⎺-┌▒⎻├⎺⎻:·/F⎼␊␊S⎻▒␌␊O⎻␊┼$

 :nervous:

I don't know if it could help but I have also beyond the red line demo (obviously in his own directory) and it works fine!

Thanks!

Lunch is good, no arguments here. But you obviously mean launching. Just for future reference.

Now, I'm not a Linux guru. But you should avoid using .exe files, unless you are messing around with WINE. There are proper builds for Linux, and for Mac as well. The newest ones can be found from this thread (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,44374.0.html).

Try this instead: ./fs2_open.bin
