Title: FRED2 Nebula issues
Post by: kalnaren on July 11, 2008, 04:27:37 pm
Hey,

I have this quirky little issue with FRED2 nebulae I haven't been able to solve. I have the FRED mod flag active via a shortcut (-mod medivps), and I know it's working because modifications I've made appear in fred. However, the Nebulae are all wrong. The nebs that appear in fred are completely different than the ones that actually appear in game. I've checked what few things I can think of but I'm afraid I'm at the limit of my knowledge of where to troubleshoot. I tried working around it but it's getting rather cumbersome.

Any help or pointers in the right direction would be appreciated.

Cheers

I'm not sure you need the -mod mediavp command line. Have you tried without it?

At any rate, "retail" nebulae are shown in your FRED, and the improved nebulae are in game.

If you have more than one background specified in your background list, only the first one (or the first one with valid graphics) will be displayed.

Yea, I've tried it without -mod, same result, although I need the -mod to use my custom tables and other stuff.

It's annoying the retail ones are shown in FRED.. that means the game has to be launched every time you want to check the positioning of a nebula... seems..cumbersome.

You must have some graphic feature disabled that makes FRED prefer the old nebulae over Lghtspeed's nebs. There must be some other command parameter that you need to add. The only two I can think of it -fredhtl and the one that enables you to use .jpg files in FS. I can't remember the command, but someone else will tell you that. I think it might be -jpgtga or something like that.
