HELLO,
oops sorry for the caps. But i just installed freespace 2 installer for max os x. I started the tutorial and everything seemed to be fine but when i targeted the drones the lower left area information on the drone was ALL green and the graphic wasn't showing up for the drone itself. I went ot the campaign and this also was the case with one or two of the friendly ships but many of hte other ships seemed to be fine. Does anyone know what the grahpic problem here is, and how to fix it? I'm not sure what my settings are or how to look them up... i did not see any besides the ingame ones.
-
My Mac knowledge is limited but for those who might be able to help, please provide some system specs.
-
I have a macbook pro. 2 gigabyte ram, core duo 2.0ghz, x1600 graphics card.
-
Try a newer build. (check the link for recent 3.6.10 builds in my sig)
-
I don't think i can use build 3.6.10 from your sig but i will search google for it. How do i know what build i'm on?
-
I can't find the 3.6.10 for os x.. help to find the newest os x verison?

-
do i only need the 3.6.9 final file from that site or do i n need everything?
-
I'd recommend trying the current stable Mac OS X build.
-
ohh is 3.6.9 not stable?
-
It is and it is also the latest "official" release. But it's old and there are a few irritating bugs that have been fixed in 3.6.10 builds.
-
I changed to the stable build and it sems that the targeting is fine but some ships are just engine exhaust still. Is this because i am not in like openGlo comaprd to Directx or something like that and if so how do i fix this?
well it sems 3.6.10 messes up my targeting so... i probaly shouldn't try it.

You have to switch to OpenGL.
-
how do i switch to opengl where is that option?
-
Hmm. Do Macs even feature DirectX? And even if they do, is there a way to toggle between Direct3D and OpenGL without a Launcher?
-
no macs don't feature directX i believe. I'm just thinking my graphics settings have to be messed up somewhere like that to have everything show up mostly then some ships don't show up and only there exhaust does so any fixes would be helpful... if it is the need to switch to openGL thing... how do i do that? or at least make sure.

If it's worth anything, Malikk, I'm running FS2Open on an OS X Mac and it works fine. So there's got to be some solution to your problem.
Are you using any MediaVPs?
-
no what is mediaVPS ... maybe that's my problem? I could always try using the installer again, maybe when it was downloading all the files it missed some or something.
-
MediaVPs are community-made graphical enhancements that make the game gorgeous. You may have downloaded them if you used the installer.
Check your FS2 directory for a folder called 'mediavps.' Also check your launcher's MOD settings and see if 'MediaVPs' are selected.
Make sure you're running the game using the launcher instead of by clicking on an FS2 executable, and, if you're using a 3.6.9 build, make sure jpg/tga textures are enabled in the launcher.

Is there a folder called mediavps in your \freespace2\ folder and does it have files inside? If yes, you have downloaded them with the Installer. To use them, you'll need to add the following command-line flag on the build you are using:
-mod mediavps

i use fs2_open button to launch the game.... if i do not and use the fs2 launcher it says flag file nto found! "it appears that the application you have selected is not valid, the flag file that it produces in order to make the UI and other things cannot be found" if i then click okay. an fs_2 open launcher comes up and then if i click launch it will launch the game.
where do i add -mod mediavps ? i found the folder and it has stuff in it.
EDIT: i changed where the launcher is pointing to the application and then i launched the launcher again and it seems that flag thing went away.
-
Under the "Features" tab, if the Mac launcher is remotely similar to the Windoze one. Simply look for the "Custom Flags" box, or something like it, and add that flag.
-
i engaged medavps in the launcher and that seems to have fixed the problem :)
Thank you!
it took me awhile to find it cause the mac launer is a little different than the windows one i believe.
Thanks so much.
-
I dunno, what should we charge this guy, Lobo?
-
Hmm. The Mac logo alone usually adds at least $200 to the price.
-
haha, that pains me deep.
-
So make that 200+ the 150 flat rate, add fees, taxes and more fees, make it 783.87$.
-
I'll get right on that :-p

Dude, I play on a Mac. It's the same.
I'm glad the launcher suggestion helped, malikk!

well,
I guess i just wasn't paying attention. Apologies.
