Title: Glide and jumpout
Post by: FUBAR-BDHR on July 17, 2008, 11:12:59 pm
Just hit a jumpout sequence with glide mode on and my controls froze with the subspace drive engaged message.  The game went on but I couldn't do anything not even escape.  Had to ctrl-alt-del.  Anyone else had this happen?

Which build were you using and what system specs?

IIRC this is a known bug with glide.

System specs won't help, and unless it has been fixed already, neither will build.

OK so it is known then.  Thought I might have found another new one.  Didn't remember reading about it anywhere  so I figure I'd double check.

I don't think it's in Mantis.  You might want to report it...

How do you glide? (With Shivan ships, etc)

It is enabled by a field in the ship table, which isn't enabled on any of the standard FS2 ships.  It works in BtRL though (Alt-G by default).

That should be fixed even in the builds TBP uses though. It was a problem for BtRL but it was fixed it in the first patch and I've not heard anyone complain about it since.

You weren't trying to send a chat message too by any chance? Cause that's a different bug and is only fixed in 3.6.10.

I just read a complaint in the Babylon project about it.

All I did was turn on glide just before I got to the jumpgate and turned around.  Could it be the force jump sexp and glide?  I'm assuming the mission used that.

Tried to Mantis it last night but my internet went haywire.  Think there were some DNS issues somewhere.  Couldn't get to half the internet.  I copied it to a text file and reported it when I woke up.

There was an issue with force-jump which I fixed in 3.6.10 too IIRC.

Yea that was force-jump not working in multi.  Wonder who found that one.

You got this error in 3.6.9? Cause the fix for the problem with clients in 3.6.10 should have fixed both problems.

You fixed force-jump not working in 3.6.9 and 3.6.10.  That was multi the glide one was in single 3.6.9 haven't tried 3.6.10 yet.

Turns out it was ended with red-alert not force jump.  Made a test campaign and I can't reproduce the crash.  May have been another occurrence of the crash I was getting in FSPort.  http://scp.indiegames.us/mantis/view.php?id=1548  Not going to worry about it unless it happens again.

With a red-alert? Cause I can see a red-alert causing crashes. I don't know if anyone ever used that for multi missions.

This was in EBW testing not multi.

I just got a similar crash (no glide) on another computer and it is most likely the Mantis 1548 problem.  Had debug on this time.  Line number was 8487.  Since it's been reported fixed in 3.6.10 and TBP is final just have to live with it.

Forgot to mention the crash is actually at the start of next mission load not at jumpout.  It just appeared that way it happens so quick the previous mission graphics were still on the screen.
