I'm confused at to when to type in www.freespace2.com to enable the cheats. I've typed it in in the control room, the briefing screen and during a mission, but nothing seems to happen other than the assigned keys in that string activating what they're supposed to activate (like the period toggling weapons.) Is there a noob guide for activating the cheat?
-
You must type in www.freespace2.com during flight. Then it will say "Cheats Activated" on the upper-left corner of your HUD. Any you must type in the "2" that is above your QW, not on the numpad.
-
There might be a difference between national keyboard types/mappings. I'm using a United Kingdom one.
Step at a time:
Once you are in the cockpit, type: www.freespace2.com
Top left, you'll see in faint writing "CHEATS ENABLED"
Then hold down ` (On a UK QWERTY keyboard, ` is the key in the top left, just under ESC. It also has the ¬ symbol on it.) I think most guides say to hit the ~ key. This doesn't work for me!
With that key still depressed, try the cheat key.
-
Or the simple solution: don't cheat.

Two helpful posts in five minutes. You guys are beyond awesome. (picks jaw up off floor) :eek2:
Thanks gigs! I'll try the suggestions.
Oh, is there any way to slow the game down? My reflexes aren't what they used to be...
-
Don't be mean Lobo!
Personally, I need to cheat sometimes on the fan-made campaigns because they are written by FS2 experts. Especially anything involving escorting. I'd never have finished the excellent Blue Planet campaign without occasionally making allied capships invincible.
With the cheat mode enabled you can slow the game down below "1" speed. Hold down SHIFT-< / SHIFT-,. It will let you go down to ".25" speed.

I'd suggest you play at 1x time compression and get used to it. Believe it or not, but it will get your reflexes back.

Thanks again, McCall! :D

Glad to help out, Webgrunt ;)
TopAce is right though. It'll probably do you good to play at "1" speed!

I didn't see TopAce's post until after I posted. Normal speed makes the muscles in the back of my neck bunch up and ache. But I'll give it a try, and also try to force myself to relax.

if you want to cheat in the long run. get vpviewer32, extract weapons.tbl from rootfs2.vp or freespace.vp, goto into the file with any word program and edit some gun or missile settings.
if you really feel cheaty

"The Subach-Innes HL-7 is a xaser weapon, firing an intense, highly focused beam of x-ray emissions. Until the Shivans appeared with their shield technology, these weapons were considered an unnecessary and costly extravagance. But Great War dogfights against Shivan craft quickly taught the Allies that their ships didn't stand a chance unless they could punch through shields. The HL-7 works superbly against shields of all varieties and has become the standard issue Primary weapon for all Terran fighters and bombers.", 3245)

Your board moderator does not approve. Cheating is evil. But since this does not count as spam, I will not take any actions.
Srsly, though. Cheating takes away half of the pleasure you get from playing a game. At least play through the main campaign once without cheating, and experience the satisfaction of beating those bastards fair and square. Cheat on the second playthrough if you must.
-
sorry lobo :nervous:.

Only if you cheat against other people. If you do that, then it's evil. If you cheat on a game you're playing solo, there's no way for it to be evil.
But since this does not count as spam, I will not take any actions.
How magnanimous of you.

That's true for you, I'm sure. However, here's a news flash for you: Not everyone in the world is exactly like you. Some of us like different foods for example, or different TV shows, and some people enjoy games in different ways. I've played hundreds of games through without cheats and about as many with cheats, and I have more fun when I'm playing God (using cheats). You enjoy the challenge and that's cool. For me, I can find enough challenges in real life to keep me happy. When I game, I'm in fantasy mode, and in my fantasy, I am invulnerable and have the best possible weapons.
I do enjoy the puzzles though, and don't use cheats to avoid or defeat them. Cheating on puzzles would take all the fun out of them for me.
