Title: A vasudan destroyer(?) WIP
Post by: Anaz on July 19, 2008, 05:55:29 pm
It's been a while. Re-downloaded SCP recently along with all the media vps, and couldn't resist making a model again...thought I might give vasudans a try, since they don't seem to see a lot of love from the modding community.

Made in sketchup5, still seems like it is missing something major. As soon as I figure out what that is I'll add it and then work on more detailing.

Free to use by anyone, on the condition that if they texture & turret it I get a copy.

Vasudan stuff is more flat and wide, if anything it looks like a Hecate with all its appendages removed.

Turn it on its side, then make it symmetrical.
That'll be more Vasudan. But then, it'd look like the Asarte.

Looks like a Hecate/Watergun.

It doesn't seem to be destroyer sized, really. it'd work better for a cruiser or even gunboat

looks similar in the front to 2-3 ships in one of the model dumps I have (for GTVA/vasudan ships) :)

Probably by Raa or Aldo

I'd still flip it on its side, mirror it., and call it an Asarte

Yeah the front of the ship looks more like the Deimos or Hecate. Would do better as a Terran ship.

I think the general Vasudan style is a bit difficult to replicate naturally. Because we are, after all, Terrans.

I believe this looks a bit more vasudan: (http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb317/Tyrkeyz/Vcuise.png).
(Yes, anaz gave me the model to make a gunboat variant) I figure it'll have 6 turrets and be about 3 times the size of an ursa

The general shape just looks weird IMO.

It looks like that sunfish pokemon.

I like it all except for the "wings" coming out at the back end of the model, why dont you remove those and replace one of them with a Bridge section?

why is it that models do not come with bridge sections any more?? the typhon class did had them so.. this would be a retrofit version of it.

looks a little to tall in comparison to length
also dont like the "wings" in the back
i think you should extend the back bulge backwards and upwards

It still screaming to me to be flipped sideways...then made symmetrical.

A gunboat? Maybe before, but with the addition of the new detail it looks far too big. Plus, the entire purpose of gunboats is to be able to have a huge firing area with only a few turrets. Due to that thing's wonky (but cool) shape, certain turret placements are going to have pitiful firing angles while some parts are completely unprotected.

I don't understand why people do this, and seeing it makes me angry. Most models are abandoned nearly instantly after starting, and if he had updates, he'd show you.

Yeah, Hades has made hundreds of good models but not one has been converted yet.

This one hasn't been abandoned. I lost it. for some reason SU decided saving models in a temp folder was a good idea -_-

Same reason people ask for updates or new screenies or "is it dead?" in the various mod forums. Because they're killing time on the forums, and that's about it. Of course it could spur someone into action, but that's assuming they still care about the object in question.

Oh of course, ignore the post of the person working on it. Fact is my comp killed it.

Hmm. It's very Freespacey... but too Freespacey. It looks a whole lot like the front of the Colossus, or Deimos, or Hecate... none of which are Vasudan, I might add.

I'd say either give it some nice bulk on the back and make it a Terran corvette, or... actually, no, it doesn't look Vasudan if you flip it sideways.
Ooh, try flipping it upside-down. That makes a difference. Yeah, definitely turn it upside-down.
And either lose those two big round sunfish fins, or at least make them look more like part of the design and less like a booleaned stretched sphere.

Oops, guess I missed the page 2.
Well, you could always consider it practice. The second time around it'll be that much better.

I'm not a vasudan dude but that's kind of insulting... hell, I just took the bare bones design from anaz and added some detail...

It wasn't a comment on anyone's design. Just that in general, the second time around someone does something it's usually better. I know, from having my computer crash and having to redo an hour's worth of work because like a bonehead I forgot to save. Wasn't meant to be insulting at all.

I've had to do that hundreds of times with dead missions, they never turn out better.
