Anyone know where it can be found? I reinstalled recently, and have had NO luck finding it, either on my backup discs or on the Internets.

http://www.165thbdhr.com/files/fs21x-12.exe
But you really should try FS2_Open instead of retail.
-
to be fair i must also give your advanced warning though, the fso installer will take time to install but it's well worth the wait. i assure you that.

when you execute the launcher (retail launcher of fs2) there's a button for updating, If I do recall correctly the link to that button was still working a year ago when I reinstalled the retail freespace, so you should just click on that.

Depends on what you want to download. If just the FSO stuff (the builds, the Launcher), you barely have enough time to sneeze. But if everything... well, that is another story.
-
Thanks for the link.
As for FSOpen, I've tried it and can't keep it running more than five minutes. Probably it doesn't like my onboard video card.
-
Updating drivers often helps with such issues. Do you, by chance, have an Intel card? They've recently released new drivers that actually have a functioning version of OpenGL in them. And there are numerous funky 3.6.10 builds available.
-
All you need is the reccomended 3.6.10 build and the Launcher 5.5d from my signature. It's about 5 MB.
-
even if it took you the time it takes to sneeze, with other people though it would take you as long as it does to restore a ww2 tank back to working condition (2 year project).

Well, if it takes 2 years to download ~32 megs, I'd really recommend doing something about the Internet connection.
-
my point is, some people probably dont have the connection you do. it took me some time to download the whole thing however if it was just 36mb for fso to install fs2o then thats that but then you got the extra 330mb for 3.9.10 mediavps, it is optional though.
a bit off topic slightly. 56k run at the same speed it does to restore a tank :D.
-
You don't need the MediaVPs, they're totally exceptional.
Except MV_core? I'm not clear on that point.
-

1. You probably mean 3.6.10, unless you're from the not-so-distant future.
2. Even the 3.6.8's take 466 megs. Without AdvEffects.
3. The 3.6.10's take 1,10 gigs.
-
my bad in typos. in not english you know just israeli .
your thinking 3.6.10 unpacked where im thinking 3.610 in its zip folder still.
-
But you didn't express how you were thinking about it. And that is what causes confusion in this world. But yes. When packed, the MediaVPs do consume ~330mb. And I think I've heard that the Installer downloads zipped stuff and then unpacks it.
And damn you. You've managed to drag me into this heavily unrelated discussion. I'm tempted to splitlock it, but can't. Too tired. Gonna sleep now. kthxbye.
-
No, you only need the .EXEs, and the launcher. Get the Suggested Build and Launcher 5.5d from my sig. Even with dialup, just start it in the evening when you go to bed.
-
Indeed you have said that already. But in regards to what General Battuta said, certain user-made campaigns do "require" the MediaVPs. Derelict has issues with that Luxor station thingy without the MediaVPs and the alternative would be to try and find a fixed mission file from the depths of the forums. And Blue Planet has issues without MediaVPs.
-
But most are fine, and if he has problems downloadign the .VPs, what are the odds he'll download a huge campaign like Derelict/BP?
And besides, he only wants to do modifications of his own. (for the most part)
You could always get someone to mail them to you, or also, I believe Sandwich lives in Jerusalem.

Actually you probably do need the 1.2 update even on FS2_Open. There are definitely differences between the root_fs2.vp file in 1.0 and 1.2 and I'm not 100% certain what gets updated.
You can find updated versions of the VP in the HotU crack pack in my FAQ but Turey's installer should automatically upgrade you anyway.

Most of those fixes will obviously be in the nameplated versions of the missions FS2_Open installs but if you ever run without the media VPs you'd definitely hit them.
