Title: Echoes of the Past - Ships and Screenshots
Post by: Yoseph on July 21, 2008, 08:17:13 am
its been 3 months since I started offering $$$ for mods....and while I've dispaired to get anything out - here it is.

The first in game screen shots of 2 EOTP ships shooting at each other in FS2.

Finally, proof its not vaporware. :)

So, if someone out there that can convert ships from .max/.3ds right into the game is intrested, I've got ALOT more ships to do, and I'm still paying!

Title: EOTP Ship In Game - Gladius Class Destroyer
Post by: Yoseph on July 23, 2008, 08:04:20 am
Gladius Class Destroyer -

http://www.cambium.com/eotp/enc-gladius.htm

The mainstay destroyer of the CDF at the beginning of the war with the League of Sol. It is better-armed than the preceding Galahad though it maintains the same tonnage. Most of the mass savings resulted from the removal of ammunition lockers and a reduced reliance on ammo-based weapons. It also features a smaller and more efficient engine assembly.

Features -

Shields
3x Magnetic Cannon (New Weapon)
Neutron Cannons (New Weapon)
Particle Cannons (New Weapon)

Missiles and AAA (New Weapons)

Special thanks to VA for converting this ship in and creating all the new weapon effects and models.

League of Sol Marauder Class Destroyer

http://www.cambium.com/eotp/enc-marauder.htm

The League's mainstay destroyer. Produced in massive numbers; it is technologically inferior to a CDF Destroyer of the same tonnage, but makes up for it by there being 20 Marauder's for every Gladius.

Features -

Shields
Plasma Cannons (New Weapon)
Missiles (New Weapon)
Neutron Cannon (New Weapon)
Gatling AAA (New Weapon)

Special thanks to VA for converting this ship in and making all the new weapons effects and models!

How do the shields work?

Weapons fire depletes them, they fail, then you deplete the hull.

Shield effects work and look quite nice.

All told I have 25-30 ships on the way.

I have all of the ship models complete.

But I'm coming up short on fighter models. Hoping to get some artists that can bang out a few for me.

Release schedule is;

Meade Class Destroyer Escort

League Mo Chi Mieh Light Cruiser

League Rand Heavy Cruiser

Once those three are in, I can release a demo mission. It will be with placeholder FS2 fighters (Human and Shivan).

After that, I will have the Vanguard class Battleship, a carrier or two, and the League Alexander Class Battleship.

Then release the first 5 missions. (hopefully with fighters)

After that, I just need to have another 15 or so ships added, the fighters and weapons finished...and a whole ton of fredding.

:)

as I have stated I am paying for help on this.

So if you want to make a fighter/bomber, or can convert ships, drop me a private message and I will get you plugged in and paid.

VA can attest to the fact I pay well, and am not an ass to work with. :)

The Shaders made through the cmd lines are perfect....I really like the metal-texture effect.

Waiting for the final, great job!

It would be nice to see a few small units in the league size, like an escort and mostly a raider: Such silent ships as this class would be nice to search and destroy. ;7

There is a league Frigate, its not the encyclopedia yet, though the model is done.

The League doesn't really stealth ships though, so no raider for them.

You gonna release these for play/campaign creatin eventually?

I'm going to release a 40-45 mission campign. However, I will not be releasing the models into the general community for use in any other campaigns. If someone wanted to make a specific EOTP campaign, I'd discuss model release with them, but there would have to be some legal paperwork - these models are the property of the company I own (and obviously me), and if I released them to the general public, I could jepordize my rights to the EOTP universe. I've been really careful with that so far, as I want to make a TV show out of this universe, and games, and I also have plans to write books based on it.

That's why i asked :)

Wasn't sure what they were being converted for. So you're using FS2 and FRAPS or somethign to create MAchinima style?
Plus a campaign to go with it?
Title: Re: Echoes of the Past - Ships and Screenshots

No, actually. I'm commisioning high res 3D interior models of the bridges of both starships in the pilot episode of EOTP; additional starship interiors, and looking for locations to shoot the outdoor scenes, and will have real actors. Obviously it'll be very low budget, but with all the gear I have, should look halfway decent.

My hope is to then pitch it to Sci-Fi, and other cable channels.

Baring that, I will shoot enough additional scenes to turn it into a direct to DVD movie.

Along those lines, what I'm thinking about doing is adding cutscenes to the campaign, of a newscaster on a green screen. That'd be really simple - I already own a green screen from my failed production studio, and I have a working Newtek Video Toaster (Version 4.6. Meh, don't really want to spend 600 bucks to go to 5 atm).

So it'd be like, find some cute girl, get her a futurist looking costume, and park her infront of the thing for 2 hours. Cost me maybe 100 bucks for some film student.

And it could look very professional if the interior art was done right.

Be a nice polishing touch and a great way to let the player get more information on the universe.

Be sure to tell us if it actually gets on TV.  'Course, it'd prolly take a few tears to get there anyway.

...

Alright, I just jumped into HLP after about a month of inactivity, so i'm probably wrong...

But is Yoseph making a mini-franchise out of a campaign?  :jaw:

Actually, I believe that he's making a moded FS2 TC out of a sci fi universe he's been inventing.

Yoseph, how did you come to know FS?
Title: Re: Echoes of the Past - Ships and Screenshots
Post by: Yoseph on July 29, 2008, 12:33:34 pm
I played FS and FS2. Loved them. No other game has EVER captured capital ship battles, with fighters, as well as FS/FS2. (Fs2 especially, with the beam weapons).

Wing Commander was a good game, but it felt like a capital ship was a joke. Anything could blow one up.

In FS2, capital ships can shred you. easily. I love that balance.

To recap - My universe is mine and mine alone. It has no basis in the history of FS/FS2, or any other universe.

I'm trying to make a franchise out of it - I want it on TV, in books, in games, you name it.

That's a hard way to go mate. But it has quite some depths: you'll get there.

Tell me, since we are not going to be able to make user campaigns on this TC, how could we possibly depict planetary battles with say ... fighters attacking league zhokov tanks or getting engage against the saurians?

Will this be subject to change in the future (whenever that is)? I'm sure this could berth very nice projects.

It'll be a miracle if it ever gets out, Halo. But I keep plugging away. :)

Starlord:

if someone out there REALLY wants to make a campaign, I would be happy to talk to them about it. Hell, I might even support it with offical EOTP artwork and such, but whoever wanted to do that would have to work closely with me and keep to cannon EOTP events.

But I wouldn't be against it. In fact, I think that would be the highest praise I could be paid - someone wants to make a story inside of my universe. That would truely be an honor.

:)

Oh, that's great then!

Problem solved.

I think you just gave your universe the possibility to flourish, and with the contents in it, I'll be extremely surprised if it doesn't.

Heck, to experiment with things, one day fredders might wish to simply allow the player to take part in a conflict as a league pilot... but even this might propose radically new features.
