Title: No Audio
Post by: Gamma_Draconis on July 21, 2008, 09:56:32 pm
Alright, so I've looked through all of the threads I could fine with search but none of them seem to have the solution to my issue. There is no sound when I start up the game. I've already tried changing the Audio from my sound card from Generic Software to my soundcard and switching back. I've also deleted my OpenAL file and reinstalled it. Nothing is working, does anyone have an idea? I could run the game fine before, but I had to reofrmat with Vista and now it doesn't seem to work.  I'm running the 3.6.9 build and I've installed OpenAL 1.1 from Creative Labs at the following locations:

C:\Windows\System32
C:\Windows\SysWOW64
C:\Freespace SCP

My specs are:
2.4 Ghz Duo Core
2 GB RAM
8800 Nvidia GTS
Creative Fidelity Soundblaster
Gigabyte MB GA-965P-DS3 P965 775
Vista Ultimate

Only thing I can think of is try a recent 3.6.10 build in debug mode and post the log.

Here's the log after I ran the game for the bit. It froze when I was checking the menu for audio settings but I don't think it'll happen again. (I'll confirm that in a bit after running the game a few more times). There is no audio at all, no command briefing voice, or sound effects. Everything else seems to be in working order.

Actually the fs2_open.log from the data directory is the one created by the debug build.   Could you attach that one.

Okay dokey. The game seems to run fine, aside from no sounds.

Looks like it's not finding at least some of the audio files but I only see a few not all of them.  If you have one of the utilities installed to view VP files try opening stu_fs2.vp and playing a file or play any wav file for that matter.

Have you checked the volume for wav files?  Not turned all the way down or muted is it?

Try without the MediaVP's.

I'm about out of ideas.

Wait just noticed you have a -no_sound flag.  Try removing that.  It's in the features under audio.

Yeah, -no_sound tends to, well, make sounds no. How on Earth have you managed to tick that on?

Wow, I  feel like an idiot. I honestly had no idea how that was ticked on.  :eek2:
Thanks for the help, now I can go enjoy Blue Planet in all its glory.
