What do yall think?

Still toying with the TBL data for them at the moment. I might also enlarge the COB of them a bit. Also wasn't there some flag someone found that gave a pof a gravity effect? (You took damage if you got too close and it increased as you got closer or something).

EDIT: I fixed the image tags for you, it was missing the "www." part      (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

WOW!!!!!

But I'd say, make them as backrounds...like the subspace (it's also a POF-file)...

But whatever....I really look forward to its release   (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Good work man!

Lookin' sharp, Warlock.   (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

And for the gravity effect, you don't need to meddle with the TBLs, you put it in a mission and name it "planet" or something and it does the gravity effect.

Just to clarify, the subspace effect is created by two cones pinched at the end, rotating opposite ways, with two different textures.

Cool I'l take Neptune, Venus, Mercury, Pluto, & Uranus. The rest I already have from Dark. I once enlargened the planet models. I got the actual measurements for Earth in metres! Freespace 2 supported it!!!!
It was damn huge!

Hey just had an idea- sorry if someones had it before but...
If you want to make a planetary mission (or at least a mission on a small moon considering the possible size limitations of the Freespace engine), the obvious objective is to have a ground strike. How about simply making the target a subsystem of the planet, and also any "Surface to Air" sites would just be turrets. You'd have to be careful about the damage rating of the moon and stuff though. Or, given the fact that two models can be placed over one another in Fred, you could have one which is the moon and one which is the installation... I know what I'm going on about  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

heh

lately I've been toying with the Lunarcell plug in for Adobe,..sadly thou it creates great planetary textures easily,..FS2 hates them. I guess it's not within FS2's colors.

But the scaling shouldn't be too big of an issue,..I think so far I've had a spehere model work that took like an hour to fly past it.

whoops forgot one thing,..rmember the larger a sphere model, the more you make out the flat surfaces.

So doing a surface strike on an installation while greatly appealing would show the flat spots all over the planet model.

Now a City subsystem that you've to to stop a Shivan cap ship from wiping out by planetary assualt (vasuda prime) could be cool

The subsystem idea is interesting...but the problem is, you're actually targeting the planet. I don't think that works out very well. You're better off with seperate objects that just sit on top of the planet model.

This is using a 700 est poly sphere as the planet model,...notice the distance and the flat edges.

How's targetting a subsystem on the planet bad? If you set the mission as "goal destory susbsystem installion" it would work.

But either way could be handled.

is there a screeny of the accurate earth or not?

Yes, but when you went to target the installation, you would have to target the planet first, and then the subsystem. The screen in the corner would show the whole planet, not the installation, and seeing a hull value for the planet would be hard on suspension of disbelief.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Freespace2 supports up to 110 models. I'm going to have some buildings as ships in the WC MOD.
