Title: Freespace SCP: OpenGL graphics problem
Post by: Romanmolf on July 25, 2008, 04:34:14 am
I have FULLY installed FSO and everything works perfectly! :D

But when I play in openGL the shields flash BLACK! (many other things go black too)

                                          WHATS WRONG??

Enable jpg/tga textures from the Launcher (Features tab, select Graphics from the drop-menu).

If no dice, provide system specs.

Nothing. These are already enabled. :(

What kind of specs do you want?

Run GPU-Z (http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/SysInfo/GPU-Z/), it will tell you which video card you have.

GPU-Z says I already have the latest version.

You have the latest version of GPU-Z. Open GPU-Z, and read what the name of the card is.

Did you remove your old drivers before installing the new ones?

No, I didn't. Did I need to?

It would be the preferrable course of action.

You might also want to try running debug build. Should you choose to do so... Just enter the mainhall and then quit. Then find to <to FreeSpace installation directory>\data\fs2_open.log (text file) and open it with wordpad (or something similar... notepad may suffocate on that file) and post the contents here using 'code' tags.

I used the debug build. Where is the text file?

fs2_open.log should be located in \freespace2\data\.

To post it, either attach it to your post (click Additional Options when posting) or use the code tags:

Code: [Select]
contents of your fs2_open.log
Code: [Select]
Searching root pack 'C:\games\freespace2\MediaVPs\mv_core.vp'
Searching root pack 'C:\games\freespace2\MediaVPs\mv_effects.vp'
Searching root pack 'C:\games\freespace2\MediaVPs\mv_models.vp'
Searching root pack 'C:\games\freespace2\MediaVPs\mv_textures.vp'

Ah, that's your problem. You obviously have the 3.6.8 Zeta MediaVPs but you are missing the patches for them. Download this (http://fs2source.warpcore.org/mediavp/mp-710_effects.rar) and this (http://fs2source.warpcore.org/mediavp/mp-710_models.rar). Extract the vp files to \freespace2\mediavps\.

I Downloaded them, but when they come they're like Internet shortcuts.

Um, what? If clicking them causes something evil, right-click and select Save target as... Then, choose the location where you want to save/download them. Once download has finished, use 7-Zip (link in my signature) to extract the .vps from the .rars.
