I am getting this for BTRL, BP and Freespace 2 open.
Unable to get proper pixel for OpenGL W32!
i read all other guides, but they wont help...i got freespace going using the old fs2_open_3_6_9.exe instead of the new fs2_open_3_6_10.exe.
but, BTRL and BP still wont work.
This is my configuration for all of the games(wing commander works with it):
http://img411.imageshack.us/my.php?image=123mt1.png
(image tags wouldn't work for it?)
Nothing else will work, i tried lower res's, 16-bit depth, OpenGL wont work at all. So i am stumped?
any idea's?
i am pretty sure i have the latest drivers for my video card, i used the OpenAL installer that came with the game(ive had it for months, just reinstalled)
-
For total conversions... Minimum is essentially 1024 x 768 with 32-bit color depth (OpenGL, given that DirectX is essentially not supported). Though the game engine allows for lower options they are not enabled in most of the total conversions.
And both img and lvlshot tags should both work just fine.
-
16-bit depth,
Don't try that again. 16-bit colours are more likely to cause problems, rather than solve them.

This seems to be a common mistake. OpenAL is sound-related, OpenGL is graphics-related.
You could check the graphics card drivers once more. In addition, you should have (the latest) chipset drivers installed as well. If you don't know wtf I'm talking about, use CPU-Z (link in my signature) to find out what chipset your computer has. Then, head to the manufacturer's site and find the chipset drivers for your particular model.
BP
And yet more nitpicking. BP is generally used as an abbreviation for Blue Planet, a fantastic FSO campaign by Darius. You seem to be referring to The Babylon Project, for which the standard abbreviation is TBP.
-
thanks alot for the support, and yes i know exactly what you are talking about.
-
So the problem was resolved?
-
havnt had time to install the drivers, will notify here again of status.
-
problem still persists
-
You could try running debug build and then posting the fs2_open.log file here
-
will do in the morning, i cant right now...need to get off
-
heres what i think u were asking for:

A quick glance would suggest that you have all the retail files. But you could have posted the whole thing. Even as an attachment (hint: click Additional Options when posting).
Perhaps system specs would be appropriate right about now.

i have a Albatron KM266 Motherboard with a AMD Athlon 1800MHz cpu, 2GB of DDR RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 5200 Video card and well what else do you want to know?
and i used the open installer provided on this site to install, so yeah...
-
So, to be sure. You have these drivers (http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_175.19_whql.html) installed for your graphics card? And you've installed the (newest) chipset drivers as well? And what about the rest of the fs2_open.log? There really should be more than that. The part you posted didn't even get to the part about the OpenGL version.
and i used the open installer
And this is yet another common mistake. Not a big one, but a little irritating. It's not an Open Installer that installs FreeSpace. It's an Installer that installs FreeSpace_Open.

thats all that was in the log?
and i know what u mean about the open installer, but i was just calling it as it is labelled "FreeSpaceOpenInstaller"
-

:wtf: There really should be more in it. Take a look at Romanmolf's log (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,55381.msg1119242.html#msg1119242) (attached to his post). That's a pretty standard measure for a log file. How did you run the debug build? The typical procedure is to select it with the Launcher, then Run it either up to the point when it crashes or until you get to the Main Hall. Then quit, and the fs2_open.log is in \freespace2\data\.
And...

alright, well thats all i got for a log...but my installer i had for them drivers, was corrupted
but that new link fixed the problem. ur a champ, thanks alot buddy! :pimp:

There wasn't any more cause that was the point it was crashing at. :)
That's the textbook log for a driver problem. It's given up the ghost trying to initiate OpenGL.
-
Ah. Makes sense.
-
yeah, lol..anyway thanks alot for the help...now i can use my new joystick to play some games!
-
Incidentally, have you thought about using the MediaVPs? The difference graphicswise is quite significant and your rig should have enough juice to run them.
-
no, please explain.
-
1. Do you have a folder called mediavps inside \freespace2\?
2. Does \freespace2\mediavps\ have .vp files in it?
If yes to both 1 and 2, open the Launcher, open the MOD tab, click Select MOD, select the \mediavps\ folder, click OK, click Apply. Then, open the Features tab and tick on at least Enable specular, Enable glowmaps, Enable environment maps, Use models for ship selection and (if you are running fs2_open_3_6_9) enable jpg/tga textures. When you run the game, it will be noticeably prettier. And remember to stick to OpenGL. Direct3D is evil.
If no to 1 and/or 2, run Turey's Installer again and this time select the MediaVPs to be downloaded. Once you can answer yes to both 1 and 2, proceed with the instructions above.
-
Nah, a 5200 isn't enough.
-
You sure? How does it compare to a Radeon 9600? I've used the MediaVPs (no adveffects) with such without problems. Well, a little twitching in mass battle scenes but nothing too bad.

Yeah I have that graphics card but no where near as good a computer (1.5 ghz chip and 512 mb ram). The 5200 should be able to handle it no probs. Even with Adveffects, although it may slow to a stutter during large battles or when there are a lot of asteroids! (nicking the asteroid fix from BTRL and putting this in the mediaVPs folder worked for me however)

Which 9600? My 9550, which is basically the same card with lower clock speeds, goes down to 5 FPS when looking at any BP HTL ship, for example. With a few HTL ships (Orions, for example) It slows down.
-
Haven't actually tried BP wit it, but FS2 main and FSPort run well enough. Stressing that I'm deliberately not using AdvEffects. The rig might be somewhat comparable to Wobble73's rig.
-
Mine was the exact same as Wobble's, and didn't do AdVPs without the RAM upgrade.
-
it still runs smoothly, thanks alot guys
