Title: Advice needed on campaign (several missions included)
Post by: Solatar on August 08, 2008, 02:27:26 pm
Sol - 2355 is a campaign I've been working on intermittently during the summer. I've planned about 10-12 missions detailing the war against the Galactic Terran Alliance and the Rim Coalition (the old Jovian Coalition and Kuiper Federation, background from TVWP). Thus far I have four in a near releasable state plus a cutscene mission for a title.

I need a few people to test and critique the missions, if some people would be so kind...The download is rather large (53mb) because it includes the MOD that will be used for all of the missions. The reason it's so large is that the /maps folder takes up a lot of space.

www.geocities.com/mpkerrigan/Sol2355-Beta.rar

Requires the Port as well.

I have chosen not to put them in a campaign file so they can be played from the mission simulator (without canceling any campaign you're on). I'd like to improve these four before the final release and make them more polished. The reason I'm releasing these few is so that I can potentially use the feedback to help me make the others much better the first time around.

Here's the description:

Sol 2355:

It is a time of turmoil in Sol. In late August of 2339, just four years after the Lucifer was destroyed, the old Jovian Coalition and the Kuiper Federation seceded from the Galactica Terran Alliance and formed the Rim Coalition.  A brief war followed, but the Shivans had left no fight in the GTA and the Coalition was granted independence in January of 2340.
The discovery of a weak jump node orbiting Quaoar in the outer reaches of Sol (beyond the Lucifer's subspace shockwave) in 2347 rekindled the GTA's hopes of reuniting with the rest of humanity; even more so when the jump node was revealed to travel to Diones, a system whose unstable nodes collapsed during the 14 Year War. Contact with the remaining GTA or PVN has eluded residents of Sol, as two more jump nodes within Diones are phasing and lead to unexplored, largely empty systems.
The Galactic Terran Alliance and the Rim Coalition have both explored and colonized Diones and for years managed to stay out of each others way. Recently, however, tensions have risen as both sides begin a large fleet build-up...

It's been tested on WMCoolman's latest build (the 6th of August one). If you don't have this build, the cutscene mission may not work correctly.

Lastly, I'm using geocities, so it may die.

Any and all criticism is welcome. I want to do this campaign right, not half-assed.

Only had time to check out the tech lab and cutscene. While impressive, that was enough for me to notice some errors.

Stars are duplicated. Maybe you should just use the 3.6.10 starfield skybox?

When loading:
Code: [Select]
Error: Can't open model file <bomber01.pof>
File: modelread.cpp
Line: 1995

Call stack:
------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------

Could continue, but I don't think it was supposed to be Ulysses fighters that got out of the carrier.

In the tech lab I've seen some missing models too.

Actually, Ulysses are supposed to come out of the carrier.:) FS2 was 32 years later, this is only 20 years so Ulysses are still in use.

I'm still working on polishing up the tech lab (letting you only see ships I want you see) and same with the weapons.

Bomber01 is the Athena I think, which would result from you not using the Port.

I'll look into the skybox issue, thanks for taking the time to check a bit of it out.

Were you running it with FSPORT?
He said that it needed it too.

Solatar, you should have included a mod.ini so people don't forget to include fsport.

Probably should have in retrospect. Definantly a major thing that'll get added to the main release. I'll update it, and when I have time later this evening I'll upload a version with a mod.ini as well as a few other fixes people spot.

Almost everything in the mod didn't need FsPort.

Error in first mission (S2335-1-01.fs2)

Code: [Select]
Error:Required token = [#Wings] or [$name:], found [+Use Table Score:].
File: Parselo.cpp
Line: 659

Had this come up like 20 times.
Already running port and MVPs.

You need the latest exe. Latest exes tend to be incompatible with 3.6.9

*curses* then I won't be able to run my own campaigns which were made on 3.6.9 *curses*

The mod itself is based off the fsport, even if much of it is not needed. I guess I should just go ahead and make it standalone with the mediavps.

I'm not sure why a lot of you are getting errors, which is unfortunate since I'm trying to iron them out.

Well, I think you can play 3.6.9 missions on new exes, but you definetly can't play on 3.6.9 using missions made using new builds.

The missions were made (or at least finalized) on brand new .exes, which is why it requires the newest ones to play.

Ah, alright. I guess I'll grab one of those.

Sorry guys. I know the MOD is a bit rough around the edges; I had though it was ok enough to post up so people could test the missions out a bit. If anybody gets around to testing the actual missions, I welcome any and all feedback.
