Title: root_fs2.vp strange problem
Post by: Alex Navarro on August 10, 2008, 03:39:57 pm
I've got a problem with root_fs2.vp
The game can't read the missions contained in root_fs2.vp. When i go to the techroom's missions menu, there is no training missions (Terran/Vasudan/Shivan Gauntlets) and Templar campaign doesn't show. When i extract them in the Freespace2/data/missions folder, it still can't read/find them. They are there, but they aren't, missions menu is empty. I can fred them, however.

The game can read my custom missions only, but the others... What's happening?

If you mean each and every mission, there is indeed a problem. But if you just mean the
(Terran/Vasudan/Shivan Gauntlets) and Templar campaign
, those are multiplayer missions, if I'm not mistaken.

I can play the main campaign. That's not a problem. But i want to modify (translate) the campaign missions. When i extract them, it is like they don't exist for the game. I can use FRED with them, but i can't play them when i go to the techroom.

I can't play individual campaign missions. Is there some kind of protection? I've extracted the missions in the missions folder, but the game can't detect them.

You have to put them in \data\missions.

You can't just play them from the techroom if they're part of a campaign. You have to beat them first in campaign mode. Press Shift+S to circumvent this.

As i said, they are already there. Extracted from root_fs2.vp.

Sorry but I don't want to replay campaign missions. I'll try to explain it:  ;)

This is what i want to do: translate the game to my native language. I need to modify each mission's messages, briefings, command briefings and debriefings. I already did that with the Shivan Gauntlet, but for nothing. The techroom can't detect the missions i put in the 'missions' folder. How can I translate a mission that can't be played? Do I have to play the entire campaign so i can translate the game?

By the way, my custom missions do appear in the techroom. Only Gauntlets and campaign missions do not appear.

idk, since I haven't tried, but most likely you'll have to switch to multiplayer with your pilot in-game.

Yes, some were multiplayer missions.
And about the campaing missions, i think i found a way out. I go to FRED, and edit campaign. At the campaign menu i modify each mission. I think... it's possible the problem is solved... i hope that.
Thanks to you, people.
For now, i believe this thread is over.

But it isn't, because you shouldn't have to do that. Press Shift+S in the mission simulator, it unlocks all missions.
