Hey guys, just installed Turey's installer during a wave of Freespace-related nostalgia and it's really great what the team here have done, the novelty of playing the original Freespace with great graphics is gonna take a long, long time to wear off, so hats off to the whole community.
My only problem is that no cutscenes appear to be working at all with the port. I haven't messed around with the files too much (too much of a n00b for that), I just load the Port from the Launcher, but instead of the first cutscene from Freespace, I see the first one from Freespace 2, before being dropped into the original Freespace hanger. All the missions, voices etc. work fine, the damn cutscenes just won't run.
I've been looking through similar topics and saw that a lot of people mentioned ogg. files or something similar? I don't appear to have them on my PC, is there somewhere I can get them? Also, I didn't download the Port through Turey's installer (another problem I won't go into), I got it from the website of the Port itself, but I made sure to get everything.
Oh, and I am running in OpenGL, judging from similar topics the number one cause of problems seems to be using Direct3D so I avoided that at all costs.
EDIT: Something small I forgot to mention...in the walkthrough for using the Installer, there's a picture of the Mod section complete with original Freespace logo and a small blurb describing the mod. This comes up for me when loading another mod but not the Port. Is this important? I'm thinking it possibly indicates I don't have all the files I need?
Thanks guys.

Check if there is a .vp file in \freespace2\fsport\ with a name containing the word "cutscene". If yes, it might be broken. If not, you are indeed missing the cutscenes. They are available at FreeSpaceMods.net.
Edit: after reading more carefully, you are most certainly missing the cutscenes. So off to FreeSpaceMods.net yo go.

It's just an extra feature. The description can be included in a mod.ini file that resides in the mod folder. The Installer would provide you with one, but since you didn't use it, you should create one manually so that the MediaVPs can be used during FSPort. Details on Karajorma's FreeSpace FAQ. The picture appearing in the Launcher is related to the same thing. If there is a proper bmp and a reference to it in the mod.ini, it will show up when the mod folder is selected with the Launcher.

Thanks for the speedy reply man, I sorted out the Launcher issue thanks to your advice.
I downloaded all the movies from that site in ogg. format, but they still don't seem to be working. It's gotta be something I'm doing, though. I've just got them all in a folder called 'Movies' in my FSPort folder, should that work or no? I don't actually have a VP file named anything to do with cutscenes so I'm assuming that's the problem. If there was somewhere I could get that file I think I'd be OK.
Thanks again guys.

If you had a cutscene vp, you'd have the actual cutscenes already. The .vp is a container format, like .zip, except that there is no compression. It is a handy way of distributing mods or other numerous files. For now, you can forget about that, since you downloaded the ogg movies.

\freespace2\fsport\data\movies\ should work.

Ah, that's done the trick! Thank you so much, that was really really helpful and everything's working great now. Have a good day, man. :D

You too. Glad I could be of assistance.

The helpfulness hurts.
